Looking at a 2001 CLK55

My dealer has a 2001 silver CLK55 with 15K miles. Thinking of trading in my 2001 CLK320.

Any guidance on what to look for would be usefull. Car is loaded with command phone and CD.

Thanks

Martin

Get MB service history/records, title history.

Make sure AMG is starmarked for 100,000 miles w/additional 3 years of warranty.

2001 CLK55
As you undoubtedly know the used car market is in a shambles. I traded my '01 CLK55 w/18,000 miles in on a '03 CLK55 - got $42,000 in trade. Be firm. You should be able to buy it reasonably. It's a great car. Good luck.

Took a look at the car on Monday, impressive drive, the power and low end torque reserve is truly impressive.
Car is loaded; Command, Phone 6 Disc CD, and Phone with voice control.

Other info; car is clean, 14K miles one owner, all service records, no major problems fixed under warrantee, tires are brand new. I did not like the chromed AMG style wheels (AMG Aero II), the dealer will swap for non-chromed AMG 5 spoke 170 from another 2001 CLK on the lot and put the new tires on at no charge. I know that the 5 spoke non-chromed are worth less than the 170 wheels but I prefer them.

The past owner traded it in on a CL600 Twin Turbo!

Initial offer was $21K (including taxes etc) + my 2001 CLK320 to drive it off the lot. The original price difference was 26k so this is a bit high I need it to be quite a bit closer to $17.5 + my car before I drive it off the lot.

I took a look at a new CLK500, looked pretty good and would probably cost only a little more, a 2004 car vs a 2001 make it a tough choice, plus I can get exactly what I want.

Anyway I will haggle a bit over the next few days a see where we end up.

In March I traded my wife's 98'CLK320 for a 01'CLK55. The CLK55 has everything except COMAND and I paid $50600.00 It came with 1 year/100K miles Starmark on top of the original warranty. My CLK55 had 14000 miles and I got $20,000 trade in value for my CLK320. My wife was a little reluctant at first because it is not a red CLK like her old one, but after a few drives she couldn't stop bragging how fun it is to have that much power. We thought about the 03'CLK55 but the exterior/ interior styling were disappointing; if it has the new E-class interior we would buy it without hesitation. Good luck with purchase.

14k and new tires may be odd ....

I got 19,600 mi. on my OEM set, and I was not kind to them. Other than that, what you are looking at sounds like a good car.

All the used CLK55s I see in the San Jose, Calif., area have 35-40k on them. Mine is going on 38k and I still love it. No major problems.

Somebody said get the 100K warrantee. I did it but I probably will not do that again. My CLK55 is great but I am already thinking E55 Kompressor, and I just do not keep cars 5-7 years. My advice is only get enough warrantee to cover as long as you will have the car and then a little bit more.

I'm not sure if Timster's car is still on the market, but he's selling a 2002 CLK55. His CLK just had a Kleemann Kompressor and speed sensitive suspension installed a few months ago. I was thinking about buying it, but the wife said I was getting a little too carried away . The last time I checked ebay, he had a buy it now price of ~58K.....that's a steal if you ask me.

Good luck

Joe55 -
perhaps listening to your wife might save you a headache.

rroberts -
the extended 100,000 transfers, if you do not use it,- to a private party, or if you bought the MB Premium extended, you get a pro-rated portion back, if you choose.

I personally, would use it as a PLUS, as an inducement, for a prospective buyer's extended warranty protection.
