How does button/paddles work on your CLK 55 AMG
hi,
I own a 2003 CLK55 AMG MK1.
I retrofited the button by the C63 paddles, conserving the electronic of old buttons.
The paddles (or buttons before) are fonctionnal only in M Mode. If i am in D S mode per exemple, they are not fonctionnal while pression to the left or right on the gear shilft work to get on 4 or under. To use the paddle I need to pass in M mode.
A friend of mine has a 2005 CLK 55 AMG MK2 (with quad exhaust) and the buttons are always fonctionnal independant of the gear box mode.
So my question is to know if my CLK is strange, or if it is logical for a MK1 and indeed if an upgrade of gearbox software can put the MK2 mode on my CLK ?
Thanks for your testimony
I will ask to my MB dealer but I am not sure he will have an answer to a so specific question

On the 7G tronic it's functional in all modes. At least that's how my SLK was...
2005 CLK55 should have the 7G?
I remember test driving a 2005 C55 with the 5speed tranny and the paddles/buttons were only available in M.

In my '06 C55 the buttons do work in C and S, but only to set the maximum gear the tranny will shift to, i.e. I'm cruising in 5th and hit the left button (or stick) and it will downshift to 4th and never go above 4th.

I wish the CLK55 had the 7G, no the 2005 has the 5speed, same as the 03-04. Only difference is we can hold redline in manual mode, no automatic upshift. Also i too can down shift with the paddles in S or C.

The shift logic of the AMG Speedshift transmission was changed for the model year 2005 CLK55 to become the same as the W203 C55. The shift buttons will work in all modes (C/S/M). However, it is only in M that there won't be automatically upshifting at redline (for the 2005-2006 CLK55 and C55).
For those of you who have the 2003-2004 CLK55, the shift buttons don't work in C/S and modes. But I presume that the touchshift feature can still be activated anytime by nudging the shift lever side to side.......is this correct?
For the 2005-2006 CLK55/C55, the shift buttons simply activate the touchshift feature in C/S modes (to duplicate what can be done with the shift lever).

Thanks for your answers. I went to my MB dealer today and they confirm that it is the normal behavior for my CLK MK 1 and next time I have a service (begin of 2012) they will check if the TCU soft is up to date, but they said me that they will not upgrade to the soft of MK2 if it is not the version for my VIN.
I am not very optimist and I think the behavior will not change.
