Has anyone here from the U.S. taken European delivery of a CLK55? I'm trying to decide if I should bother with it.

Last time I checked in March/April, the only US spec. AMG car available for EU delivery was the C32. I've got both a CLK55 (May 04) and E55 (Jan 04) on order and would love to pick them both up at the factory.

A friend of mine was trying to take an European delivery CLK55 cabriolet, but MBUSA says that car does not include in the program. I doubt the CLK55 coupe can do that either.

Why would MB exclude some models? Are CLK coupes made in the same factory as Cs (since they share the same platform)? I know the cabs are being made elsewhere.

I think it has to do with supply. U.S. dealers have limited allocation of the 'new' high-demand cars.....

Euro delivery may be available, however, when the 'new' high-demand model has been out a couple years.

According (generaly) to my dealer, cars in EU delivery are not included in their allocation. They have offered me an SL 500 to drive in EU just so they can buy it back outside of their allocation. This was last year. I doubt that they'd make the same offer this year Besides, US dealers get more AMGs than the ROW.

The excuse I got from them and others is that the cars are not completed in the MB factory but in the AMG shop across the street. I don't buy that BS becasue EU drivers can get their AMGs at the factory.

Maybe they don't want the liability of some nouveau rich, inexperienced American driver with $100,000 burning a hole in his pocket to get into a wrek on EU highways and sue MB. Didn't someone do this to Porsche after they toasted their Turbo about 20 years ago?

Who knows but I'm still trying.

We could have done that since the early 90's in an SL600 All MB's (AMG or not) are limited to 155 or 130, right?

.....now, where is that crying smiley face??

Plus or minus, they are limited to those speeds in the US. EU specs are different. I was in a E270CDI that had higher top speed than the US spec S500 we picked up at the factory. In EU you can have the limit removed at the factory on some cars!

Damn! It looks like you guys had some fun! I used to visit the Norcross area quite often on business. Georgia is a beautiful place! We need a Bay Area event like this sometime.

I'm selling the E55 now and waiting for my November build replacement. I have Brilliant Silver now and am leaning towards geting it again but Pewter looks great and I hear there is another silver/grey color this year.
