Smile Megacrazy's Build Thread

Hey guys, I'm Mike and I'll keep track of all the changes I do to my CLK in this thread. Bought it bone stock a while ago but I was busy with my other cars...finally it's getting some attention. I do all the work myself, except for major paint jobs clearly haha.

Here are the mods so far:

- Eibach springs
- Forgestar wheels
- Dynavin with M3 Evolution ROM, 2 amplifiers
- 3M CF wrapped interior pieces
- Black painted airbox, battery/brake covers
- LEDs all around. The only regular bulbs are the reverse lights.
- OEM CLK63 bumper with all corresponding parts
- Custom retrofited Hella 90mm projectors
- Vinyl wrapped 4 slat grille
- Depo LED tails
- Depo blacked out corners
- Transmission cooler

Upcoming in no particular order:
- BBK (either AMG 6/4 setup or Rotora)
- HID kits for fogs and high beams
- Quad exhaust
- Rear CF or black diffuser
- Supercharger (not sold on this one as I already have another car that's supercharged)
- Maybe a front lip...not the standard CF one though. I thin kit looks stupid and just pasted on...with no connection to the rest of the bumper. I might get something custom done here.

Here are some pics:

The first thing I did is lower it and wait 6 weeks to get custom Forgestars. Coming from a car with flush 20's it was kinda hard to drive a car with 17's that looked like a monster truck with a fist of fender gap haha. This made things better.

The next thing I did is add some Depo tails, corners and LED's all around..which are all visible in the picture above.

Then I got busy and ordered some 3M CF vinyl and applied it. I also installed the Dynavin headunit which was a pain. I had to install 2 amps and basically rewire everything...in the end though it was worth it. I have 2 different nav apps, torque etc etc. Very nice.

Then I ordered all parts to retrofit a CLK63 bumper. While waiting for the bumper which was coming from Germany I got busy thinking about some decent fog lights. I decided I'd retrofift some Hella 90mm headlights so I got busy with that once the bumper came.

Anyway here are the end results so far:

aaaand a shot of the sunset

I'll keep the updates coming as things change. If you have any questions about my mods feel free to ask and I'll help if I can

Thank you thank you.

The Forgestars are 19.8.5 and 19x10. The tires are 235/35 and 265/30. I had a hard time getting the exact offsets out of Forgestar but they swore it would be flush with "low 30's" offsets.

Looking good!

Have a 04 non-AMG CLK200 and am installing the post facelift amg front bumper on mine (non 63) as got it cheap. Picked up some used fogs and grills as well as missing tow eye and bolt covers. Getting a body shop to fit it but do I need to provide new terminals, fly leads or wiring harness to install the fogs or can they modify the existing non facelift ones?

There are many adapters available online. Just check what bulbs you have right now and what the new fogs use. It might be the same bulbs. I switched to H11 from 9006. I got adapters online for like 10$.

This is what I used:

Well LED's are different from HID kits. You'd get the most light out of an HID kit. That's my next step here.

Nice work,
Did the LED mod give you trouble with the lamp indicator system? many are having trouble with this. How do the projectors compare to xneon in your opinion @ night. I need the fogs bright on unlit roads with xneon headlights.
Thanks for sharing the mod with everyone.

You need to buy the LEDs that have the built in error cancelers. So far no issues.

The projectors output a lot more light than regular fog lamps. Essentially it's like having 2 low beams on at the same time. When the HID kit is in...it will be twice the amount of light you get from the stock low beams (xenons).

I'll get some beam pattern shots once the HID kit is in.

mega - great mods.

Like you I just ordered the clk63 face-lift bumper, but I'm tracking down some of the little hardware, like the little covers near the center grill, and the small misc hardware (bolts etc..)

You wouldn't happen to have a parts list w/ P/N for this swap by any chance you could share? It seems parts sellers can be somewhat lost without p/n's.

thx.... car looks great. Really like the look.

Thanks. I am watching your build thread as well . Looking good.

Yeah I have a spreadsheet with all the parts used. PM me your email and I will send it to you.

You really only need all the cover parts (clearly), and the screws for the lower grilles. The brackets that hold the bumper to the fender should transfer over. You'll need to get some rivets to rivet the bumper support bracket to the bumper cover. You'll also need misc screws and clips for the fog lights as well as a conversion harness for the fogs...depending on what fogs you decide to use. That's about it off the top of my head.

So it's been a while and i decided the brakes sat in my basement long enough.

- CLK63 front/rear rotors, 6 piston front calipers, 4 piston rear calipers.
- ATE Typ 200 brake fluid.
- StopTech brake lines.
- EBC Redstuff pads.

Cut it:

Paint it:

Install it, bleed it, test it:

Enjoy it:

Everything pretty much bolted on except for the rear dust shields. They needed to be cut a little in order for the calipers to mount properly. The brakes are much better and the Redstuff pads bite quite hard. Not a single noise from them. I coated the back of the pads with the brake quiet sticky red crap.

Up next: exhaust, rear diffuser, front lip.

I was going to go with red too but decided not to copy you haha. Should look good...red on silver. Hopefully these rotors don't give you issues again.

Nice work! Looks amazing. What sort of paint did you use for the engine cover?

I feel like this is a dumb question, what is the radiator issue you mention?

I was thinking of wrapping some of the interior trim also, was it very difficult? Does it look pretty good in person as well?
