oil consumption
Hello I know it's probably been brought up multiple times but I'm new and I have just bought an 04 clk55 amg. And the add another qt of oil has appeared twice in a matter of two weeks. The first time I thought ok but now a week later it's saying it again.I checked the oil via the position switch it says two quarts low that's when it was hot.it doesn't smoke nor do I see a leak.I did get on it a couple of times just to see what the car would do, but nothing excessively. I heard this is normal.but how much is normal.....

I use a quart about every 3500 miles, car has 75k on the odo,
Do you have any history on the car ?
When was the oil changed ?
Was the correct amount put in at the oil change ?
If your not sure I would just change the oil and filter it takes about 9 qts of Mobil1 0-40.

I would suggest and independent mechanic over the dealer. Just make sure they use the correct oil and filter.
The dealer out here wanted $1600 for a spark plug and wire change on my clk55

Ok thanks he said he religiously stuck with the a/b maintenance I bought it from an older gentlemen who's had it since it had 55000 miles on it now it has 11200.it says it has 3000 miles before a is due. I put the two quarts it said was low and I'm taking it easy to see when it comes on again..

well I went approximately 400 miles and when I checked the oil level via the computer it stated a qt low. I talked to my mechanic he said there's no way that could be cause to lose that much you would see smoke or oil somewhere.I bought a dip stick on line I'm gonna check it manually..

It is hard to say without a dip stick,
The level sensor could be failing but you would not know without draining and measuring the oil that was removed from the engine.
I average around a half quart usage in a 4000 mile oil change interval. If you are trying to go the full 10,000 between changes expect the engine to use a bit of oil.
As engine oil collects un used carbons from combustion or moisture from sitting expect it to burn along with the fuel. I am not in favor of a 10k oil change at all especially when the car makes twice the power and torque of others. If you love that power then protect the internals by reducing the interval to 4k after the engine starts seasoning. 80k
I perform my own oil changes and pour the used oil back into the empty container taking note of low level.
I am approaching 200,000 and have light leak around the level sensor and minor smoke in the AM which is likely a valve guide seal.
Cheers
