Just checkin-in to get your responses on a thought a local indie made.. I was at an european service shop and heard someone state that it was NECESSARY to change springs on cars after 70k miles

I think its not necessary if its not broken I mean do they change compression over time??

Anyways what do you think?

My understanding is that springs can sag over time but very rarely ever need changing for the life of the car. Shocks on the other hand can wear quite a bit. I would say it was recommended to replace worn shocks. Necessary is a bit over the top unless they are obviously stuffed.

^^ +1...I have never heard of springs that are NECESSARY to be replaced in any vehicle under 200k or used consistently on a track


shocks on the other hand can start leaking and should be replaced once they are worn out, but again it very rarely necessary

Car springs do not have a 70K mile replacement service interval. I wonder what the shop thinks the interval is for the torsion bars on a 911.
