CLK55 Crash - brake system related
Hi everyone. My son crashed his 2002 CLK55 today and I thought I'd ask for some advice here. While he was driving his ESP BAS ABS lights came on. He stopped and turned the car off and turned it back on and the lights were not on. They came on again while driving and he ended up rolling the car after someone came into his lane on a curve and he ended up braking during the curve.
He's okay but he rolled his car and the car is of course totaled. My questions are regarding what should happen in this situation. Is this an item the NTSB Mercedes-Benz USA should become aware of? I need to call the insurance company. Is the proper way to notify them through the insurance company?
Thanks again and any suggestions are very welcome.

2002? Car's well out of warranty...
In this situation, if you can't handle a panic braking situation, and are going to rely on ESP/ABS to catch the car that you can't handle, then when those systems have faults you pull over, call a tow-truck and get your car serviced.
Or, if you think there's a reasonable chance there may be something wrong with your car, slow down and use more than normal caution for the remainder of your trip? Clearly there is a problem, and the car warned you. If you ignore it, that's on you from there forward.
Generally speaking, something simple like a wheel speed sensor failure causes the system to shut down. The failures happen with age/mileage, simple sensor replacement will rectify the faults. The system will however be non-functional due to the fault until it's repaired.
Let insurance pay for the car, and buy another car. Nobody got hurt, thankfully, so life goes on.

Glad your son NOT hurt,
something wrong happened to the braking system"ESP/BAS",,
or your son pressed the "ESP-off" accidentally, while turning with hard braking..!!

Likewise, Glad to here he is ok.
Sounds to me a brake lamp was burnt out or the brake lamp switch was failing. This might turn on the ABS/ESP lamp.
These cars are powerful and heavy requiring a bit of defensive strategy while driving. It is all fun when no one is around but it is usually others that mistake our actions.
