Hey guys. I modify air boxes for the C43 but I wanted to offer you guys the same service as well. I made one a while ago for the clk for a member (cooper) but that version was pretty expensive. So now I'm making a more affordable one that will fit all Mercedes as long as the air box looks like the one I posted here.
A little about this custom air box.
I gut the inside to remove the big pillars from inside along with the fins. These things distort or reduce air flow to the throttle body. I also get rid of the fins in the bottom of the air box. I won't say how I did this but it's a nice mod to make your car breather better and make HP. This stock box is VERY restrictive so I fix this. I did not raise it up (like coopers air box) to ensure fitment and reduce the cost.
I will also be shipping with the air box what I call the FFE, Fast Flowing Elbow. This is the plastic elbow that hooks to the throttles opening. This elbow also restricts the air from rushing into the throttle body. I remove the plastic fins and than port the plastic around the port openings to the rubber gasket. This allows the air to flow fast to the throttle body. I than sand and smooth it and give it a paint job. Both the air box and elbow look brand new!
Both pieces will ship to you when you order. With both of these pieces you should get 10HP. My C43 air box is proven for that 10HP, it's been on the dyno. I don't see why this air box with the FFE will not make the same.

Can you do this with a C55 Air box? It looks very similar to this one. I like the idea of keeping my stock Air Box. Also, are you recommending a different air filter or stick with an OEM?
Yes I could. It's pretty much the same box as the one I just modded and posted pictures. I send the top portion only so all you need to do is install the bottom parts of your own car which holds the air filters. And if you look at the pic you posted I also send the number 8. That's the elbow that I mod to go with the air box. It will give you great throttle response and of course horse power and torque.
And you could use which ever air filter you like. Myself I like AFE or any other that has a LOW profile. There is another brand but I can't remember. K&N are good too but make sure when you add the oil to let it sit over night so the extra oil drains. Or use a vacuum and suck all around the filter. This is what your engine is going to do but might wet the maf which is bad. So vacuum helps prevent this. But the easiest way is not to over spray the oil from the start.
