I’ve heard about Oil Sensor problems, sound familiar?
I just went on an extended trip, around ~1,000 miles all said and done.
About 250 miles in, I get a “add 1 quart upon next refuel” that pops up which isn’t a problem as it’s happened before and I was pretty sure there was enough oil in the engine, but it starts getting more frequent as I go.
Long story short, I check the oil via the Engine Oil level check, and it says I should reduce the oil level while off. I go into the diagnostic menu to see the actual oil level and it says 10.0 quarts. The part that worries me is that, as if on queue, about 500 feet from my house AFTER the 1,000 miles, I get a bright red “Visit Workshop, Oil Level” message which spooked me.
I know that the sensors can go bad on these cars so I’m wondering if this sounds like a sensor related issue, or something potentially more serious. I do have a slow leak at the Oil Quality Check Port in the front of the motor (I’m not sure of the official name of this but did a little research prior to leaving my previous destination)
Anyone have any ideas? I’m assuming the Sensor needs changing which is fine, but I’m looking to see if the symptoms point to something more serious.

Wanted to follow up and bump this, I'm thinking Oil Sensor needs changing. Does anyone know what would happen if I disconnected (can I disconnect? I haven't looked into this extensively yet preparing for the job) the sensor and get a dipstick in the meantime, if that would prevent the malfunctions from showing while I wait for the part?

I replaced the gasket on the "Oil level sender" on my CLK55. Not sure about just unplugging it.

If you unplug it the maintenance logs will get fubar along with quality log.
I would not do it.
I have a sensor wheeping a bit on one of my cars due to replace. no electronic malfunctions though.

Does anyone have the part number for the oil level sensor? Forgot to look it up when I had my laptop hooked up to the car.
I guess they do go bad after a while. I got the same "oil level visit workshop" message. Oil was not a problem. Checked the output of the sensor and it was going from 7.5qt to 0 randomly...as soon as it goes to 0 the message fires up. Needless to say, it needs changing.

I’d also like to ask if anyone knows how low the oil sensor has to go to engage the “add quart upon next refuel” message. I’ve been adding about a quarter quart every time it pops up and after about half of the quart it is still popping up but about three quarters of the quart and the message will keep from pinging
Just wondering if it starts pinging the driver if it’s about a half quart low or so, or when it starts engaging as the warning light

Interesting Mega, I’ve been adding a little oil here and there when I get the “add 1 quart when refueling” but only once did I get the “visit workshop” warning. That’s the one that spooked me.

Was experiencing this alot last year. Red light on and now the worry and concern but I was good enough to get my family in Canada to get me a dip stick. So the first time I service my engine, I waited then checked and made a marking for full level oil on the dip stick. Every time this stupid error came on and red light, I would check the level the next morning until I managed to buy myself a sensor. On the next service, I replaced it. There is a post here somewhere or on google somewhere that indicates the torque value used. I couldn't see the issue with the old sensor at all so don't know why it did that. The new one in works? Well no dumb error or red signal dash to turn engine off. But now I don't know if the oil is measuring correctly.
Is this a simple change out and replace sensor or does it require calibrating? I still use the dip stick and have found it being low but the cluster never alarmed me. Maybe it only gives the warning if it goes lower than 2 or 3 litres of oil?

The warnings can be adjusted in star diagnostics.

I have noted a add oil warning for 1 qt but the car sat on an incline for a long period of time
The sensor detects oil quality some how and gives alerts accordingly. The sensor reports to a log file when oil is changed or topped off.

nothing ever fixes itself unless it got a self-help book, read it and did what was required. your problem still exists......you are just ignoring it Ive been hottrodding for 39 years and MB engines especially the M113 are the easiest engines I have ever worked on.

yes...I just got the notification (from my 2006 CLK 55 AMG) that my oil sensor needs some in shop care....also why are your head protectors on your rear seats extended? it detracts from the beauty of your smooth ride.
