enemy of the clk 55 ?

within the next 6 months i'm going to be getting a w208 Clk 55 stock. I was wondering what the 0-60 time on the stock is and what is it's major competitor ? i know it all depends upon the driver and anything but if another car were to pull up next to me and take me down what would it be? I've decided to go with the w208 because I like the look of the car and also cheaper Thanks

hi,

i think the stock 0-62mph is 5.3secs.
your main competitor buddy is the M3!! - because you have opted for the w208 it will get beaten by an m3 if it were to pull up.
but anyway the w208 is a nice car and looks very sweet.

thank you,

for the longest time i have always loved the look of this car, and we have a 2004 SL 500 but you can't really drive that everywhere, and i wanted a car that would be fast, get looks and turn heads, but i wouldn't be as worried driving a 2002 CLK vs the brand new SL, so this is going to be my grad present, and also the first AMG in the family i love this car, i test drove one a few times and boy was it fast thank you all for the info, so now i reask this, with the 0-60 now 4.9 (that seems to be faster than the w209), will i still be beat with an 02 M3 ? thanks again for the responses.

I'm a Benz man all the way but I thought the BMW 645Ci would be or BMW would claim it to be a CLK500/55's prime competitor

In addition to the BMW I considered the Maserati (1 year old instead of brand new CLK55) but found it to be unreliable, not that the CLK has been reliable.

The CLK has been in the shop 5 times in 14000 miles, but from what the Mas dealer told me I would be lucky if it started 2 out of 3 times, so I am doing better then that. Price is close on both though, as is performance, and damn if that Mas is not the only car on the road better looking then the CLK.

Anyway, price on a NEW Mas is $86,000ish, so it is not to far off, and in the range of the BMW also.

Well, you DO have more hp

IMO, hp (in the wrong hands) just gets you into trouble. Isn't that you on the left with the tan shorts? :v

That Bangled BMW 645Ci is, IMO, butt UGLY and priced to compete with the W209 CLK55. The upcoming M6 might be in the CL W215 range.

i drive an ///M6
4.9 0-60 is about right, although i have heard of 208's that are fully broken in or with wider tires doing even better. i've lined up to an e46 m3, 911 carrera, and an '04 corvette (not a z06), as well as a couple WRX/STi's and even a new chrysler 300c HEMI (ok, that one's not fair )and haven't lost 1 yet. the m3 and WRX's were the closest off the line. :v

You can buy a used Mas in the high 60's but the tranny is junk on the Mas. As far as other cars.... The M3's can be easily beaten unless your on the twisties. The M5 is a closer competitor in that it will hang with the 55's at the higher speeds. Other compeition...Moded WRZ STI's. Believe it or not, that little $25K car can REALLY fly. You can leave the non-moded ones at higher speeds but the moded ones might just leave you. Corvette Z06's will outrun you. The new Lotus will outrun you. The .... (In other words, there's ALWAYS going to be someone bigger and badder than you). For the performance and luxury combo, the 55's are about a sweet as it gets! I miss mine

Ferrari 456 with mods

Talking about different cars the 55clk can beat. I was test driving my car after doing some mods at Evosport and got in a race with Ferrari 456 with mods. Beat him by 3 cars and he was pissed. I had the Evosport tech (gary) in the car when we raced.

The dyno numbers continued to drop. 1st 400hp 2nd, 390hp 3rd 383hp. My understanding is I should be around 420-430hp. So we think it might be some software issues.

Why was the CLK's engine de-tuned compared to the W210 E55?

CLK has 342HP 376lb-ft I believe.
E has 349HP 391lb-ft.

The motors makes the same power. Typically the more expensive production car will have a higher hp output than others. Take the 03+ E55 vs SL/CL/S. The E55 is rated much lower but puts out the same.

Off the line, I have had 50/50 success against M3's, mostly older ones. '03-'04 M3's are a handful. I can get them ok if we start already in motion. This is b/c of the wheelspin of the CLK55. Same with M5's. Off the line, most M3/M5 drivers (I had a '00 M5) can not shift well and thus the auto of the CLK55 can take them, but you loose that with the wheel spin.

Funny thing happend to me the other day. An '04 Porsche twin turbo wanted to race me starting about about 80mph. I refused and he kept motioning me to go for it. Kind of felt like a big kid egging a little kid into a fight so he can say he can beat up little kids. Pretty funny.
