StumptownBenz CLK55 M113k Swap Progress

I've been getting a lot of work done on the car since I don't have a commute anymore (working from home) and the weather has been nice. I'm behind schedule, but I guess it doesn't matter since race season has been postponed 'till who knows when.

Here are some pics of what I've been up to:

Very nice, ati damper and everything. The exhaust setup is so nice as well. What are you going for in terms of tuning, m113k ecu, standalone, etc?

Badass Joe. I’ll be watching. I Started on the W209 pulling useless wires and such.

Keep it up! I may be contacting you when we further along.

The car already has a Holley Dominator EFI and PCS standalone TCU. I just need to add a few more I/O's for the supercharged setup and retune it.

Joe,

Awesome work, I can't wait to see the finished product. It would be worth a trip to Portland to see you run. Where did you source the M113K?

I got it from an S55 that was being parted-out up in Marysville.

Was that the white car on craigslist? I have been considering the M113K swap for some time and trying to find a low mileage engine at a reasonable cost has proven more difficult than I thought. The other issue is finding a local PNW shop that can re-code the ECU to the correct VIN.

Yes, it was. I was watching Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for quite a while before I found a good deal. You can also find some good deals on car-part.com, especially if you need the engine shipped. Most scrapyards can ship engines for much less than an individual would be able to.

The exhaust was made by Stainless Headers Mfg. in Minnesota. I put my entire OEM system on a pallet and sent it to them and had a custom setup made that follows the same path and has all the same mounting points, but flows better. And yes, it is beautifully made! They can make anything -- ask for Steve if you call them. He's been great to work with.

Checked out their site. Wow! They build some nice headers.

I got a lot of little things done this week. I mounted the fuel system components, made oil and transmission cooler lines, insulated the trunk tank, and got the battery mounted.

Nice Joe. Is it a requirement to have the battery in a box?

Also what did you use to wrap the ice tank and where did you get it?

Since I have removed the rear seat, the batter is considered "inside the driver's compartment", so NHRA rules say it has to be in a box that is vented outside and bolted through the floor. The Taylor box is NHRA approved.

The tank is insulated with self-adhesive 1/4" neoprene panels that I got on Amazon. Here's the link: https://amzn.to/2z9oJgH

The W208 originally had the battery in the trunk?

The 209 has it on the right side under the hood where the cabin filter is located.

Can you check that link it wasn’t working for me.

Yup, the battery was in the same place as it is in my E55.

Fantastic build! I appreciate the attention to detail including parts/installation, write ups, and photos! I'm a big fan of unique builds such as this; most people swap over the electronics of the donor car to do the M113K swap but going the standalone rout is even more rare (the youtuber "sk8215" also runs a standalone on a M113K and even swapped in a manual transmission). That exhaust is a work of art! The manifolds look similar to the $350 W209 Top Speed performance headers, but I imagine they are double the price and weld quality is much better.

ATI damper

I contacted ATI about a damper for the m113k and was told they don't make one. If you don't mind sharing, how did you get that unit?
