I finally found a W208 worth buying. It was located out in Ann Arbor Michigan and I drove out to take a look, and drove it 630 Miles back to Philly without any problems. 2002 CLK55 AMG with 122K. It certainly has some areas that need attention but it's a solid car all in all. As of now I have an ABS light on, an ESP light on and an exhaust leak that sounds like its coming from the driver side manifold, as well as another somewhere around the driver door. Its not terrible but it certainly needs to be replaced. Im thinking a proper set of headers, high flow cats and a good Muffler should do the trick.
Its going to be a fun project to take my time with. I plan to eventually correct everything that it needs as well as add some tasteful Mods along the way. I'll create another progress thread but I wanted to introduce myself and the car here first. I have been lurking on this forum for quite some time, so its nice to have finally pulled the trigger on an AMG. The torque in this car is just unreal!
55 Degrees today up in the Northeast, I had to take a couple pics after another wash! Looking forward to warmer weather so I can really enjoy this thing.
Looks great - how is it for rust? Mostly the issue is the body, wheel arches first.
If you are doing headers and exhaust you will have a nice opportunity to get more power.
My understanding is the headers really hold back the 55 motor (they do in the w209).
Beautiful car!!! I really miss my CLK430........I don't miss playing Dental Hygenist on the front lamps......Brush and floss yours and don't eat too many sweets.....btw Colgate Whitening works the best!

It has its flaws, mainly on the bottom of the doors and the rear wheel wheels slightly, but i plan to get it into the body shop in the Fall.
Im close to ordering a set of "Moscow headers" and start to assemble my exhaust system. From what I hear this guy does very good work and they are built very well. (They look it too).
