My antenna cover has been trashed for a while so I finally bought a new one as I have repaired the rust on my CLK. Apparently it comes unfinished even though this ebay add showed it painted black. This is any OEM part.
Anyway, I can bring it to my body man but was also thinking this would be simple to paint. I wanted to ask since it is going onto my freshly painted car. Should it be primed? Should I just get some gloss black spray paint for cars? Any recommendations?
You need to prep cover with primer for paint to stick otherwise next time you wash your car with a water jet pressure you will blast the paint off and you need to paint it again.
Therefore, first spray plastic-rubber primer and let it dry for 24hrs before you apply paint the next day.
Finally when it's done you apply clear coat
I have no doubt you can do it yourself, but I would highly recommend you have a professional paint shop do it to avoid any mis-haps. It's a small piece and it won't cost a lot to paint.
