W208 CLK55 Drive Shaft Noise at 20mph
I have a noise which appears to be coming from below the center console, possible the drive shaft. It sounds kind of like a slow garbage disposal without the high pitch sounds gargling some big chunks of bone or something like that.
It's gotten louder and more rough over the year or so. I hear it only when I hit around 20mhp, slower acceleration seems to bring it out more. Below or above 20mph it's goes away.. Doesn't always come on unless I hit the sweet spot somehow when attempting make it sound. On the freeway it comes on also when holding the gas steady and/or not accelerating too fast.s
Any ideas? Some loose bolts maybe?

Can it be inspected from beneath or would one have to remove parts to inspect?
How many hours do you estimate for a mechanic to fix either of those issues? Wondering if it’s a pretty straight forward job to DIY or leave it for the experts?

Your rubber donuts might have cracks from old age?
It will take a few hours to do the job.
If you're skilled you can do it yourself otherwise take your car to a reputable shop.

And center bearings?

Don't buy no-name parts, buy only known branded parts like OE or OEM!
Buy genuine MB parts or Lemfoerder aftermarket parts
Happy driving

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Worth looking at that thread and watching the video to compare.
All of my issues went away after replacing the centre bearing, bearing carrier and both prop shaft rubber flex joints.
I paid around £450 in total (I am based in the UK). I suspect could have saved £75 or so shopping around for labour. They said that it would have been cheaper if I replaced the bearing but not the donuts.
The reason I waited so long is because a shop actually checked and told me the bearing was fine. Glad to have replaced it.
