Thumbs up Day at the drags - shooting for the MBWorld record!

The fastest 1/4 mile time for a bone stock (W208) CLK55 I could find on the forums was a 13.3 posted by 5439cc and a 13.32 posted by skidz1.

My best time to date has been a 13.439

I'm GOING FOR BROKE!! I've got to find 1.5 tenths to get me into the 13.2X range. The plan is to hit the drags on October 10th.....I'll pray for a nice cool morning.

Take off the rear seats might help 0.05 sec!
Take off the spare tire might help 0.05 sec!
Go on a diet for the next two weeks, hopefully you can trim down 5 lbs might help 0.02 sec!!
1/3 tank of gas might help 0.01 sec!
Let's see....what else can you do....go to the bathroom before the race might help another 0.01 sec!
Wala!!!!!! The above should add up to 0.14 sec, good enough to become the King of dragstrip!!!

Your enthusiasm is much appreciated! If I get a decent launch and take the advice you and Harris have posted, I think my goal is obtainable.

Chappy -

NASCAR drivers use nitrogen in their tires.
Local COSTCO here in N. Miami has it. No charge for their customers.

Make sure that the rear tires are low: 25 lbs or less; - I'm not sure, may be 22 lbs?

Drive like you stole it!!

***UPDATE***

Gents,

I have been unsuccessful, this time. There are many excuses I could offer (high humidity, threat of rain, poor track conditions, MAJOR traction issues, etc.), but alas, I have nothing but the truth to report back:

My best time of the day was my first run: 13.456 (0.017 seconds short of my all-time best of 13.439). My 60' times ran a consistent 2.1-2.3

One thing to note: When I adjusted the tire pressure (as low as 21psi in the rears), my times got worse 13.683 and 14.083. So much for me having any success with the "speed tricks".

On a positive note, I have now worn the rear tires even with the wear bars. I'm ready for the PS2s to go on

I'm "down", but not out. I'm running completely stock, down to the original air filters and tires (my car is 2.25 years old and 15K miles). Perhaps with some fresh rubber and a clean air filter (and a nice chilly day) , I can find the .2 seconds I've been searching for

Congrats!! These were impressive times considering the ambient conditions. With the cooler weather approaching, your best time might come between Thanksgiving and Christmas as a gift.

I am surprised at your low mileage. I just completed my 40k service. It seems, that it runs more powerful as time progresses, which could mean, that your best times will be in 2006/2007.

Sorry to hear it. IF traction is a problem, toss a couple of sandbags in the trunk. The added traction might offset the the weight penalty.

On the new tires, make sure you have a couple thousand miles on them before trying them on the track and pump up the fronts to 45psi.

Good luck!

Thanks I'm game for trying again in cool weather. My mileage is low cause the CLK is a second car for me. My 300CE serves as the daily transport.

It was a great time out at the track. Like Chappy my best run of the day was my first one and went down hill from there.

If you drop pressure too low in the rears you will actually put down less rubber and lose traction/success as you noted.

Tires intended for pressure drop/drag use wrinkle up the side walls and grip insane when pressure is lowered.

It is likely that the outer areas L/R were hitting the pavement and the center section was losing grip.

Personally, I can't wait until I can run my car at the drags. I may try it in October if the track is still open.

No longer car shopping...
Cai?

Take OUT the back seat COMPLETELY. Remove the passengaer side seat and the drivers seat. Put in a carbon fiber perfoemacne seat. Put in a K&N filter. One of the things that helps the guys running TL's is a Cold Air Intake. Funny but I've never heard of putting one on a CLK55 in all the time I have been on these boards. I wonder why not? It doesn't ad a LOT of HP but it could add a little (and it helps keep the temps down under the hood).

i think this winter we are going to do some major weight reduction like taking seats and pannels out of E55jlp's W210 and see if we can break the MBworld stock W210 record!!

I too lazy....plus, I want to be honest about it and have a "true" stock vehicle. I'll remove the spare and run with 1/2 tank of fuel. Perhaps if I shed a few pounds by October 9th, my times will improve! My butt goes on the 1/4-mile diet tomorrow :p

Chappy,I guarantee you that if you remove the spare tire, run with about an 1/8th of a tank of fuel or lee, possibly take out you passenger seat your times will improve greatly. With a terrible reaction time and 60ft and by doing the mods above I ran a 13.6 @105 in my BMW.My goal with a proper launch and the same weight saving mods is 13.4-13.2.Stay tuned.

PS what is your launching technique if you don't mind telling?I plan to run the C55 tomorrow at English Town.
