My dealer wants $990 for a front-end brake job.

This includes pads, rotors and labor for a CLK 55 AMG (208). So does anyone know a good online place to order pads and rotors from?

Tell him to take a rod and shove it each service advisors ***. That is ridiculous.

You want to stick to OEM AMG or would you consider Brembo or Stoptech or one of the many other companies in stock sizes or perhaps a BBK (Big Brake Kit)?

The W208. If I remember correctly, Autoweek tested the 60-0 stopping distances and the results were 113 ft for the CLK and 117 ft for the C32.

Interestingly, the Porsche Boxter stopped in 112 ft.

Pads and rotors are very expensive on the W208 AMG (pads alone run nearly $300 - just the parts!). How many miles do you have on the car?

I called my MB Dealer in Rochester Hills, MI and he quoted me for $500 which includes pads, rotors and labor. This was for my 2002 CLK55 AMG and all parts would be OEM AMG/Mercedes-Benz...

Although i have 320CLK, I got mine done for like 400.00 from an independent benz shop. Dealer was asking 600 - 700.00.

I'm doing some research now on how much rotors in the stock size with pads will cost.

Are you looking for OEM style stopping power, or perhaps a low brake dust solution or what?

My '01 has 32,000 miles on those rotors which isn't a whole lot, but I drive it pretty hard so I didn't surprise me too much that they recommended a new brake job and told me I was under the wear lines on the rotors when I took it in for Service B. I'm a bit surprised that the pads didn't outlast the rotors though.

I don't care what parts I replace them with as long as it's not K-mart parts.

$216 for pads, $254 each for rotors. List prices. It's highly unlikely that any aftermarket rotors exist for this car, and if they do, they probably not of the same construction as the OEM ones (they are multipiece). The W203/W209 brakes are of no comparison, because really they are designed for looks, being inexpensive, and being the basis of brakes used on nearly every car in Mercedes lineup (I think they started with the W220 S-class). The W208 brakes are truly an "AMG picked" design.

(Rotors used to be around $400 each so you should be happy. A brake job for the front was $1100 just for the parts.)

$270 for labor... a bit high, but not out of line with what most dealerships charge for labor.

So how are some of you getting pads, rotors AND labor for $450 - $600 when the cheapest rotor I have found is $252.00. The pads are a different story as the Tire Rack has them for $45 - $85-ish. I just ordered pads at $62 and rotors for $252 each and that's not labor yet. That's $566 for my parts, are the dealers undercutting OEM wholesale suppliers?

Amil, your dealer is only charging $380 for BOTH rotors?

What gives?

The 2003+ CLK55 have totally different brakes than the W210 E55s and the W208 CLK55s. If I'm not mistaken the C43 shared our brakes as well.

Read Scorchie's post above....prices have come down, plus our setup is using a multipiece rotor as opposed to the brembo setup found on C32s and W209 CLK55s.

2005+ CLK55/C55 owners are in for a shock when they need their first set of rotors replaced. $660 each, and $155 for the pads...

Ok gotcha, so the 2003-2004 brakes are the Brembo, less expensive, setup? hhmm, why did they do this for only a few years do you suppose?

Thank you for clearing that up!

Scorchie,

What changed on the 2005 CLK/C55 setup vs. the '03-'04 parts?

6-piston calipers... more expensive rotors!

Not playing into the high cost of the fronts, but the rear discs are ventilated again.

Thank you for the great info. I am curious if this newer setup actually outperforms the previous C/CLK and/or the W208/W210/C43 brakes.

The dust is more than enough to move me to aftermarket pads. Plus better stopping power than OEM. OEM pads are terrible.
