Naturally, in front of the BMWs

The car is a 2001 Black Opal CLK55 //AMG with CLK 430 chrome 17's replacing the AMG Monoblocs, owned by a young friend of mine in Idaho. Nice kid. These pictures are from a BMW club sunday brunch in the Seattle area.

Yeah a few runs on the freeway, the owner (Jeff) blew away some older M3's and a supercharged M3. The M5 wasn't broken in yet so they couldn't run against the 55 that day.

but i'll have to question the owner's decision to replace the monobloc with the CLK430 standard rims.

drove my brother's friend's CLK55 once. it is scary fast. somehow the CLK55 feels quicker than my C32 but it is not. maybe it's because of the torque difference.

I was thinking the same thing - why? plus chrome = heavy!

Yeah, well I'm a big fan of BMW and Porsche aftermarket stuff, in which chrome is generally a no-no. In my opinion, chrome only really works on SUVs, Caddillac's, and Benzes. An AMG might be pushing it though, but realize this CLK55 is more of a luxury cruiser and not a sports car (automatic transmission, heavy weight, etc). I think chrome would be a little bit more taboo if this car was, say, a 911.

I wouldn't have put on the 430 chromies, but then again this isn't my ride!

Yeah, BMW really did some good work with that M5. Nothing out there can beat it (maybe the '03 E55, but it's supercharged, automatic, and not out yet).

You're right, it is the torque difference (also being that the 55 is a V8). The C32 is only quicker by about a tenth or two of a second. Past 60mph, the 55 should pull away.
