Black CLK63 Price and Availability

My dealer called me about the Black CLK. For some reason they are convinced that I really want it. He said that the factory will make ONLY 300 world wide.. Not every dealer will get them and for 2007 the full production run will be sold out by the time they are shipped in late June/July.

Price will be 130K

Was their quoted 130k MSRP or did it include a market availability bump? I just asked yesterday and they didn't have the numbers yet. If 130 is the MSRP, I think I'll pass and go for a used Gallardo.

The 130K was what they really would have charged me.. They wanted me to place an order for one of the 300 to be manufactured for 2008.

They had let me test drive a CLK63 and after power sliding through curves and generally blasting around, I decided that the car was beastly powerful and handled very well. It was a tank that handled like it - well - had 450HP under it..

Brutal, firm suspension and glorious deep exhaust note. I can only imagine what the Black CLK would be like. But I complained that the CLK63 still had the annoying sloppy throttle response at lower rpm's (when the ECU is trying to figure out what you really want). I told them it wasn't enough of a jump above my CLK550 to be worth the price.

I was also REALLY annoyed by the steep drop in trade in on a 6 month old CLK550 (P3-sports suspension option). They seemed to think that I would want the Black CLK and talked to the factory. I could have ordered it. They really wanted to sell me and would have given me a 1-2K more on trade than they had originally offered.

The current MB's are terrific cars, but do not hold their resale value at all. Its a shame. I think they are having trouble selling the CLK63's.. The Black CLK may be rare enough to hold better, but 130K was too much for me.

I decided to get a Porsche instead.

Sorry........

Tell me about it. My new C55 less than 6 months old is working on almost a 50% loss in value. I know cars aren't money makers, but this is a bit ridiculous. I normally buy cars like evo's, race/drive them for a year or so at the track, and trade them in and only lose a few thousand. I want the black CLK so bad, but if it ends up being worth 75k after a year I'll lose it.......

Oh... And they said it won't be "Black".. It will be silver. It really is a street legal version of the F1 pace car.

I was really interested in this car, but 130 for a clk. Lets not forget that the model is going to be changing in 2 years. Then that car is going to depreciate like crazy. I'll pass.

If they only make 300 or so each year I don't think they'll depreciate as bad as some other Benz'. However, if they make 20k of them next year, we could be in trouble I've finally realized it just costs money to have nice things.

I've come to a conclusion about cars. You buy it to drive it, if you can't afford to drive the wheels off of the car you own and have it depriciate like crazy, you really can't afford to own it. This is not just Mercedes , its experiance from any exotic I've owned.

Its not only the depreciating in value, you have to also remember that when the models changes, your not going to want that car anymore. I totally agree with you, when i sold my f355, i lost $60,000, but it was a joy to drive that thing everyday.
