trade in e63 amg for clk 63 amg?

please help.

went into dealership today for routine service. i never expect to see anything too surprising on the floor because the salesguys usually call... but not this time.

there she is. black on black. stunning. i took pictures of it and have been thinking about it all day. googled it. read tons of reviews. have read most forum posts here.

but i need help. its 50% more $ than my 08 . it lists at 135k. i want it, and can probably afford it, but the question remains... is it really THAT much better than the car i have (beyond it's low production #)???

i am a hooligan driver. (like many of you i suspect).

i've seen/read a lot of comparisons but cant find any that puts these 2 cars up against eachother. anyone out there driven both?

also, there seems to be a lot of chatter about the easy availability of this car (autotrader etc...). any ideas as to how low i can get the price to?

thanks in advance for any feedback.

cheers

Ask to test drive it yourself. If you are a serious buyer they shouldn't have a problem with it. However, be forewarned, if you do, you will almost certainly buy one. The handling of the car is in a different league and you can feel that the car was intended for the track. If you ware looking more for a daily street driver, stick with what you have.

You mean the CLK63 Black Series.

Same tranny, engine and weight as your E63 so straightline speed is the same. However, BS is the best handling production car AMG have turned out. Great grip and track poise. One thing is that your E is an 08 so depreciation will be at its worst as it always is first year on mass production cars.

If you track it then I'd get the BS. If not, I'd stick with your E63 as it's a great car and practical to boot.

E63 vs CLK63 Black Series

I think the CLK63 BS weights 200 to 300 lbs less than the E63, but it does have the same engine and produce the same power. Depends on what you use it for? Do you need a 4-door? If not, then the CLK63 would make an awsome daily driver. Very luxurious (although seats are a little small, they are very comfortable in my opinion), excellent exhaust note, aggressive styling, and superior handling. You will end up losing some luxury aspects, but you'll gain performance, handling, styling, etc....

Very tough decision to make I love my E63 but I'd also love CLK63 BS, but then again, I'd love an SLR 722

CLK 63 AMG Black
This is all about emotion, not logic, as the cost difference cannot be rationalized. The E is by far a better value, and in most ways has more utility (cruising range, access, amenities).
The decision really boils down to one "desire" issue, and that is, there is nothing else that does what the BS does. It is far more involving than a tt Porsche (similar price), and basically keeps you interested every mile you drive.
The offset to that is the impossibility of measuring the value of the intangibles. It won't stack up by any means you can measure to other cheaper alternatives.
In the end, it comes down to two questions. Do you want it? Can you afford it? Both need to be "yes". The purchase price will not be recaptured 5 years down the line, and may actually worsen as the E may lose $45,000, and the BS will probably lose at least $80,000 (all of the $70,000 differential, plus another $10,000). So the "fun factor" has to be worth $80,000 to you. That is a big number, but probably not more expensive than golf at a country club or a boat. Some guys mess around, and th BS is certainly cheaper than a divorce. So, pick your poison. AS

I've test driven both cars. YES it's that much better. Handling department not even close. Nimbleness of the car is just amazing.

I think the $80,000 over 5 years is probably overstated but even so, at $1,333 per month, I will take it over anything else available for lease at that price.

As others have stated, if you want daily driveability and comfort, the BS is not the logical choice.

I'm not sure if the shift points are different than the E63. When I compared my shift points to CLK63 BS, we got same results. I also have the AMG LSD on my car. My car was shifting as follows:

1st gear: 6200 to 6500 rpm
2nd gear: 7200 rpm
3rd gear: 7200 rpm
4th gear: 7200 rpm
etc....

At the drag strip (ATCO), the CLK63 BS and E63 had almost identical times.... both cars were in the high 11s and very similar trap speeds. However in handling and on oval tracks, the BS will destroy the E63.

You only live once, if you think you can afford it buy it! If you do not buy it you will regret it. If you do buy it, you will not regret it.

I have had the opportunity and privilage to own a few as well as drive some of the most exotic cars in the world. I have driven original AC Cobra's, Corvettes (classics to present day) Lambos, Ferarris, Porsches, SLR's, Ford GT's and Vipers. I can honestly say the Black Series is right up there with the best of them. It does so many things so well. It is relativly comfortable, has many creature comforts like Nav, satellite radio and power everything, yet it can show up at a race track and put down some blistering fast lap times. Furthermore, I have only seen one other BS on the road besides mine, even F430's are more prevalent where I live. On a Sunday afternoon you may see two or three F430's tooling around town, but no other BS's. Cars like this don't come around all that often. If you have the opportunity to buy one, do it! I have no regrets.

I traded in my 07 E550 for my CLK BS, one of the best decisions I'd made.
