Car Whore
Dealer has a BS w/ 9400 miles -- "manager model"

So, dealer I was at yesterday has a BS with 9300 miles. Its still marked as new since its never been titled, it was the manager who drove it. They still have the $138K sticker on it ().

It also looks like he's hit a bunch of curbs because all 4 wheels are scratched/damaged. I'm sure the techs there drove it too.

Anyways, what do you guys think its worth? With all those miles, the condition of the wheels I would give them $85K for it. I haven't really spoken to them about it, but I did hear things like $20K off the MSRP sticker, which I would never do. I can get 2K miles and in great condition + mods for $100K, wouldn't give them $110K for a 10K mile car with damage, etc.

What is your opinion on the value of the car in its current state? I know they've had it for a while, I remember it from a few months back when it was listed on their site as new with 0 miles. I assume that they knew it won't sell for a while and the manager thought he better make good use of it so he stacked on the miles ,and they are now hoping someone will still come and buy it and they won't lose any money on it.

There are sales happening now in the mid 90's so your 85k number is strong with the given miles and condition. Honestly I wouldnt want that car knowing that it was thrashed and the techs did a Ferris Bueller to it multiple times.

I would check the fine print if you do purschase that vehicle. I do not think they can sell that car as new regardless of it never being titled due to the milege. I think 6500 is the most miles thay are allowed to legaly sell a "demo" for as "new". I think this would fall under a used vehicle, maybe even a CPO by Mercedes. I can also tell you that $20k under MSRP is a joke, I hope you laughed in their faces. You can find brand new ones out there with under 100 miles for $20k under MSRP. Considering the milege and condition I would say that $85k-$90k sounds about right.

Not sure if this has been discussed at length before, but why is there a big depreciation factor? The economy? I would thought that due to it being a limited model, it would hold it's value better than that.

AFAIK most MBs in demo service, manager driven, are titled. That is one way for the stealerships to get around MB policy and try and get more than MSRP. $0.02

Where are these sales happening in the mid 90's? Auction prices are in the high 90's to low 100's. I think that we are helping to drive the prices down.

If the car is trashed, who knows what it is worth but why take a chance and buy it anyway.

Get a brand new one for 120K.

The main point here is to go out and find one at the price that you want to pay.

The most enjoyable purchase would be to be able own a brand new one. There is something special about being the first owner of the car, the smells, the "newness", and the service from the dealership. But, that all has to be tempered with not only what one can afford, but with the reality of the price differential between what a dealership wants for a new one and what bargains may exist in the secondary market.

As long as the car is mechanically sound . . .
you know that you will enjoy driving it.

Get off the fence and get one!

Insurance is cheap...I pay about the same premium as I do for my $32,000 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited with no mileage restrictions.
