I am a Porsche 928 nut (perhaps you might see that by my sig...) and back in the day, there were a couple 928s that actually ran out of warranty b/f they were ever sold.... the first time! I think it's a manufacturer's decision about when it starts although I'm not entirely sure about that. Best to ask....

The manufacturer doesn't make that decision, the individual dealerships do. The reason for dealerships to report a car as sold or "punched" to the manufacturer, is to built up their allocation. Every 3 month a dealership gets an allocation of cars, and when they sold more units in this particular time frame, their next allocation is higher. In simpler terms, "you turn and earn". The car may not be sold to a real customer, is still considered brand new, but the warranty starts ticking. Usually the dealerships eat the repair if the car comes in after the original manufacturers warranty has expired. It was a common procedure in Porsche dealerships, especially in the early 90's, when they had a hard time selling certain models.

your BS looks so sick and clean!!!! What a steal you got for less than $100k. The previous car i purchased, i got permanent tags at the dealership i think because i put 1/2 purchase price down on the car. Normally, they will slap a 30 day temp tag on the car and send you the permanent tags.
