I agree 100% on the point of personal responsibility. I should have been more clear when I said, "Then you're receiving 3 and 4 credit card offers PER DAY in the mail and how could people not fall for it .... unless they had some personal discipline??

I was pointing to the idea that most people are stupid and will believe whatever is told to them. This despite the fact that they look at their income and wonder, "How can I afford this?".
Well they couldn't, but they went along with it because based on the collective experience, there is very little personal accountability in this country. Filing bankruptcy is so easy!

You know these credit counseling services? They negotiate on your behalf with a credit card company who they know will settle for 35% on the dollar, then they charge you 45% maybe 55% and laugh all the way to the bank. In the meantime, the deadbeat gets to keep the plasma TV, stereo, jewelry, DVD's, cell phones and whatever other crap they bought.

I had a friend in the UK who was a physician, earning $120k+ pounds some years back when the pound was valuable. Through a mutual friend, I learned that he was hideously in debt with no hope of recovery based on his earnings. This is a guy who should have known better AND had the means to avoid such a nightmare. Today, when he should be enjoying his retirement, he working at a discounted rate just to pay rent and food.
The absence of personal responsibility afflicts young and old, but mostly the stupid.

I'm not naive enough to think that this doesn't apply to a couple of people on MBWorld.

the media is a farce......they are mostly democrats, ESPECIALLY the head guys at NBC. Ill just say that i was a democrat until September. I knew nothing about politics before cuz i didnt need to. I took what the media spoonfed me. Now being a small business owner who pays alot in taxes, i had to and wanted to learn as much as i could. Saw the democratic agenda of more govt, motivating mediocrity, making more people dependent, socialism if u want to call it that. That was enough. Learned alot in the process. I think Obama is a great leader and speaker, but i still dont like his agenda and that of the democratic party.

Now you guys go search about the Trilateral Commission and that will really blow your mind about conspiracy theories. If im killed tomorrow someone tell my family i love them.

I'm sorry, but a person that does not have a household income that is at least close to $250k a year or have a 7 figure nest-egg or trust fund sitting around should not be buying a $140k automobile...call me crazy, but that is a prime example of living beyond your means IMO.

BTW you totaly contradicted yourself in your post, in one sentence you state "How much you make is irrelevant" and then you say "if you have the means then go for it"
Calm down a second, I was saying that it's not anyone's business how much I bring in, that my financial arrangements are between the bank and I, not other BS owners or anyone off the street. People who care about "looking rich" like to cry about affordability when someone else buys the nicer car or bigger house because all they care about is having the best, and when they don't they are going to whine and make excuses. I've been around enough new money to know how it is. I bought my car because it was the car I wanted, if I wanted a Ferrari then I'd do what it takes to get one, but you can best believe I'm going to buy it as soon as it comes within my reach not when it's easily affordable.

For the record my BS payment is under 25% of my monthly net, but my house is paid for and I have no credit card debt. Not that it's anyone's business
