Is there Carbon fibre hood???

After seeing the carbon fiber side mirrors, and the aero apron, I am wondering if there will soon be a carbon fibre hood? I have a white black series, and it'd look SICK with a carbon fibre hood, (and even more the roof!), would this be possible?

And at what cost??

There are already carbon fiber hoods available, they have been available for may years for the standard CLK and CLK 55/63, however they are kind of a waste of money, the Black Series already has an aluminum hood and the CF hoods I have seen only offer about an 8 pound weight savings over the stock BS hood.

aluminum hood?

put a carbon hood (painted) to replace my steel hood. Found hood on internet (I'm afraid to post the company name for fear of censure by the moderator). Hood is O.K., not great but definitly lighter, althought I didn't weigh the difference. If anyone out there has an aluminum hood, I'm real jealous. Try a magnet.

I guess I need to try a magnet today, I was told it was aluminum, took the persons word for it and was told that a CF hood would only offer a 8-9 pounds savings over the stock hood.

I think the CLK F1 safety car actually has a CF hood, factory quality as well, but good luck sourcing that....

There's an aftermarket CF hood made by VIS, only 1k but I doubt it'll match OEM fit/finish.

The VIS stuff is really good for the lower end cars. Over 10 yrs ago, I've had VIS products installed on my Honda and it really is garbage. I would not even consider putting it on a BS

Yeah, f-it, that thought didnt last to long in my head.. I don't want to make it look like a cheesey honda. Although honda do makes some killer dirtbikes!!!

I'm going to start off with the aero package to cover up a bad little crack I got from a bad speed bump. Next time I'll remember what happens when you floor a car down a back alley.. SHIATTT

Bringing this thread back. Did anyone find out if the BS has a steel or aluminum hood? I kept forgetting to magnet-test mine.

There're a couple of thread including one asking Vorsteiner to make a custom hood for the CLK but nothing ever materialized. If our hood is steel, maybe we can try to ask Vorsteiner again and see if they're willing to make a CF version?

Wouldn't that set us back like 10 thousand? Although I guess the rims would be of more performance value.

Agreed. Once I get back into a CLK Black, this will likely be my first mod. HRE Carbon Series.

Thanks! That's what I thought...it feels WAY too heavy for aluminum.

A good CF hood could shed a significant amount of weight, especially in the front. I know there was some effort for Vorsteiner to make a CF hood, but nothing came through. I'll email them again and see.

Anyone who's interested in a CF hood, pls post up!

I'll be interested in CF hood. But it must have vents or buldge or C63 style.

Brad from EVOsport was kind enough to inform me that they already make one, like this:

http://www.evosport.com/images/produ...M-Wing-009.jpg

It's well over $4k, but includes the CF duct to the airboxes.
