I'm really glad you found a car though, it sounds like it worked out well for you. I look forward to hearing how you like it.
Neil, the guy in charge of ebay sales, was very apologetic and sincere and I could easily see that he had no way of knowing that the car was already spoken for as I spoke to him around 10pm his time and he was already at home.

I was pretty bummed out Wednesday morning after his phone call, but I started looking again and found a silver car not too far from my house.

I went over to see the car at lunch time and my first impression was that the BS looks a lot better in person. Much smaller and tighter looking than in the pictures. I took the car for what ended up as a very short drive because at the moment the car started rolling, I knew without a doubt this is a car that I am going to enjoy!

I see that you have an F430. I used to have one too, and I think you will find that the BS is more enjoyable than the Ferrari. The BS feels like a sledgehammer in a tuxedo!

For those interested, there is someone on an M3 forum (M3post), that will part with his CLK BS for 75k. His moniker is Rapistwit...

Pretty sure he is on this list too. He's from Fargo ND and there can't be many BS in Fargo...... Lived there for a while back in the early 80's.

It's black and accroding to his post it has 14k miles.

Your thinking is what, that he made this up?

It pretty well matches the format of most Mannheim data as reported in the past by others.

I got that information from 6speedonline.com if I recall correctly. Check under the leasing and financing section. There is a member there that gives out the auction results if other members request it.

But to answer your question, no, I cannot confirm or prove these numbers.

I can verify that I bought a black CLK63 Black Series in Northern California about three months ago with 5k miles for $73k. Had thorough inspection by both body guy and serious mechanic. Then had it MBNA certified to six years / 100k miles for $3,500. All in: 76,500. Car now has 9k miles.

It took a while, but the cars are out there.

Chances are good that I'm older than you ... at least physically. I still feel (and think) like 19.

some of those auction prices dont make sense......

2D COUPE CLK63 AMG 8,245 $87,250 05/29/09 RIVRSIDE 8G AAbv SILVER Y

this is more than some cars listed on ebay with fewer miles....doesnt make sense

I think it could be due to the color. Seems like there are a lot of black ones, and much fewer white, silver, and red. But then again, I am sure auction results are not always consistent for obvious reasons.

actually silver and black are the most prevalent colors. Rumor has it there ~40-50 white ones, fewer red with black and silver making up the balance of the 367 in the US.

Oh, okay. I just thought there were a lot more black ones and less silver because there were so many black ones for sale on ebay, cars.com, autotrader, etc. It would be nice if we can know the exact breakdown.

I agree, it would be great to have that info. There is a thread somewhere on the forum containing a poll about who has what color.

Would this information be available in the Black Series registry?

I did a search and found this posted by Jim Brady on 11-29-07:

"Ya, according to AMG private lounge, Mars red is less than 10% of the production of the 350 cars coming to the USA.
Silver is first at 40%, Black at 25%, Obsidian 15%, White 12%, and Mars Red 8%.
Jimmy"

Doesn't this raise anyones eyebrow but mine?
You are absolutely correct..... it is sometimes alarming. I used to be very surprised at how much AMGs drop in value back in the day that I was actually in disbelief, but not anymore. Now, I've gotten used to the idea of AMGs dropping in value (at least to half their original price) in 2 years or less. I've seen 2006 $140k SL55s selling for $45k in just two years and 28k miles, I've seen 2005 $200k SL65s selling for $55k with 48k miles, and I've seen 2006 $500k SLR selling for $172k with 22k miles, etc..... I expect the CLK63 BS to be in the very low $60s if not high $50s near end of next year. I'm not sure why exactly this happens, maybe because people think they're over priced to begin with or maybe they get bored with them quickly and want to trade them for something else or maybe even they're afraid to keep AMGs because they think they'll be high maintenance, who knows? The fact remains that they continue to drop in value very heavily. However, this doesn't really bother me much...... in fact, believe it or not, I've actually come to enjoy it and use it to my advantage Generally, the best two ways to deal with this issue is:

1) Don't worry about the value of the car..... if you love it and is financially capable of buying comfortably, then buy it, and enjoy it until you're ready to move on, and don't worry about the value of the car at all.

2) Also, try to use the depreciation to your advantage Buy an AMG after a year from initial release. Maybe something with 5k to 10k miles, and you'll probably be saving at least 30% off MSRP. And even then, your car will still depreciate like crazy, but as long as you enjoy it, who cares..... so what if many people drive or not, as long as you love it and happy with it, then you'll be enjoying it a lot more.
