What are the best "bang for the buck" mods for the CLK BS?

Hi Everyone,

I just picked up a Silver BS with ~3,000 miles today. I just took her out for a late night spin and came back with a big grin on my face.

I would like to know what are the favorite kind of mods the members here have done that gives real results for reasonable cost. I don't intend to track the car but would like more power and increased handling in the canyons, and would like to keep the car reasonably close to stock.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I noticed that my car does not have any model designation on the trunk nor on the sides. I kind of like the "clean" look and I am sure I can have the dealer put them on at a later time should I want them. Anyone else have it like this?

Congrats on your purchase. Looking forward to seeing some pics. As for which mods are the "best bang for the buck," that's a little tough. Aside from the HR wheel spacers, just about everything else is quite expensive and the question lies in whether or not the proverbial juice is worth the squeeze to you.

I shelled out around 20K or so for the evosport ecu, intake upgrade , race headers, pipes, and rotors. With those mods, the biggest difference that I see lies in the sound of the car.

I was driving back home one day and two of my buddies happened to be waiting in front of my house. When I pulled in they told me they heard me coming and actually made a bet on whether the source of the sound was a car or a bike...

That's too bad, you'll be missing the greatest strengths of the car.

As mentioned above, spacers are low cost and make the car look better, springs are also available.
However, you have an adjustable suspension, why not start there and check your settings vs stock. Maybe the previous owner liked a softer ride.

I am pretty sure the car will be great at a track, as that seems to be the strong point of the BS. However, I am kind of lazy when it comes to that kind of stuff and would rather just take the car up to the canyons(takes 5 to 10 minutes), have my fling, and come back down.

As for the suspension settings, I am pretty sure the suspension settings are just factory settings as the first owner was not a "car guy". I can tell the car was not even driven hard because the P Zero tires basically have almost no tread wear at ~3,000 miles.

Wow, sounds like you basically did everything you can reasonably do to the car!

I don't want to be naming names, but it was owned by a famous soccer player who was active during the 90's.

On the wheel spacers, what is the ideal thickness for the front and back?

For the carbon filters, is this something that I can do or should I leave it to a shop? I just sold a lightly modded e60 M5 and the charcoal filters were pretty easy to remove on that car and took about 15 minutes. On the M5 it did make a noticeable difference especially in the low end.

12mm on the rear and 10mm up front. I bought my H&R spacers from Evosport. Don't forget longer lug bolts. Much improved stance in addition to the handling benefits mentioned earlier....

i called about the car you bought. You came across a great deal. i called an hour after you and he said it was sold. congrats. I'd say some good pads lines and brake fluid are pretty inexpensive and good.

Ses Evosport for spacers. Carbon filters are a diy. Theres a thread on it, search is your friend.
For the 6.2 NA motors, you need to make them breathe. A lot of little things add up.

JL,

First thing i would do is lower the car a bit, then slap on a set of 19", get the CF airbox, then the complete EVOsport exhaust along with the PC tune. That should start you off in the right direction.

The factory wheels are 19's. I assume that's what you were referring to ?

Sorry. Should've been a lot more clearer. I meant slap on a set of a lighter set of 19"s like the aftermarket ones. Nothing wrong with the stockers they just don't do it for me. Guess it's a personal preference.
