Just installed K&N filters, my thoughts

Paid about $110 from Autzone (they had to order them) for both. They went in super easy. Apparently whomever owned my car before knew to remove the charcoal filters because both were gone already, but they left the stock air filters in?!

I cant tell if there is more "seat of the pants" HP yet, and dont really expect to notice a difference... but what i did notice is smoother acceleration, smoother downshifting and maybe a little more noise from the exhaust (from a little more airflow?).

Overall a good, easy mod. I hope to do the Evosport intakes sometime, but for now I am happy and was anxious to get my 1st mod in before my car is shipped out to LA where it belongs.

Probably won't notice much. The gains are from the removal of the charcoal filter. Also, the "Evosport" filter, AFAIK, is the "ROW" AMG air box top.

See my thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...mystified.html

There's not enough time in the day to read through all that stuff. How about posting a simple summary.

I just read all of it, very helpful thread... bottom line is that there are 2 basic ways to upgrade your intake. For less than $500, you can order replacement Euro-Spec (ROW) airbox tops from MB which will be higher flowing or you can get a Carbonio intake for less than $2000 that does the same, plus has 30% more volume and looks NICE.

The MB airbix tops of course do not include new filters (K&N or BMC, $100-$200 value) and the Carbonio does. So, if you can afford it (and you should if you have a BS), get the Carbonio.

At least that was my take on what I should personally do...

The Carbonio airbox does not include BMC filters, I had to buy those separately. It comes with a set of foam filters................bought mine a long time ago though

Is $500.00 worth 2 1/4 hp increase? Doesn't seem cost effective to me.

Sorry, I mis-spoke, it does come with foam filters according to Carbonio's website, but they are supposed to be high flow. I have always used K&N or BMC, and would replace them anyway just because I'd want to.

Depends on who you ask I guess... I plan on eventually getting the ECU tune and maybe the pulley, so it all adds up in the end. Plus, it's fun to do upgrades.

I didnt buy a Black Series to save money, if I wanted to buy a $100 intake system, I could have bought a Honda.

But, if that Honda has 165 hp & an intake mod adds 10-15 hp, that's a good investment (for the Honda owner) & an improvement that's noticeable.

On the other hand, our cars have 500 hp, and to gain 50 hp (which is something that's noticeable) we'd have to spend upwards of $10,000.00.

Given that performance modificatins are worth pennies on the dollar at the time of resale, no matter what brand of car, I rest my case.
