My wheels are really , REALLY corroding . Why is this happening ?
Anyone had this ? The gents at MB Word took pics but im not sure what they are going to do with them .
I want some black wheels too .
so i have 2 questions
1/ is this normal ?
2/ what aftermarket black wheels do you guys recommend ?

thanks , regards " Sad in Surrey "

WT, are you by any chance using wheel cleaners with harsh chemicals? Once the clear coat is off the wheels, bare aluminum corrodes.

I would only recommend powder coated black wheels, as painted ones will chip like crazy. HRE here in the US makes them in all kind of textures.

I had the same problem and after 6 months of letters and many calls to the district manager, they replaced two of my wheels. Both had very minor pealing of the clear coat and that was after 2,000 miles. I only used a 50/50 mixture of simple green and water to clean mine.

They are custom made to your specifications to any offset your heart desires

Mine are HRE M40 monoblock in brushed aluminum and clear coated. You can choose gloss black, matte black, textured black ........

I have not had any issues. But then again I've only run the stock wheels for a couple thousand miles. It got me to thinking if we could narrow this down to one wheel manufacturer or another. To the guys that have had clear coat or corrosion/pitting issues, which manufacturer made your wheels? If 90% of you say it's the Alcoa(example) then you guys might have a serious complaint regarding a manufacturing defect, MB would not have a leg to stand on and would be more inclined to go back to their vendor and demand replacements. On the other hand if you guys curbed your wheels and lifted the clear coat you will be the one with no lef to stand on, once that clear gets lifted it's over, moisture and brake dust will cause little bubbles to form in the clear, before you know it the entire wheel looks like a 15 year old boys zit covered face.

The clear coat on two of my wheels were starting to peel and after many back and forth letters and numerous complaints to MB, they agreed to replace both of the wheels
