Brake Pads

Have my car at the dealer for Service A and they're telling me it needs new front pads (which I knew already). However, they are quoting me $585 for the job. Does this seem way too expensive to simply change pads - are they bleeding the system as well ??? I mean, how much are the parts themselves ???

$300 for pads plus $22 for the sensor unless you get the MB Club discount which brings the pads to $242 and $15 for the sensor.

At least that's what happened at my stealer last week.

It's a 1 hour job in the garage at home.

Whaddya mean I'm cheap?

Thanks for the quick reply. Stealer is telling me $350 for the pads and sensors...I've changed plenty of pads in the past...anything I need to know for the DIY - special tools, parts, technique etc ?

Nothing special ... I don't remember the exact socket (13mm?) for the center bolt but if you have a nail punch to drive the set pins out, you're golden.
Rubber mallet to drive them back maybe.

BTW, MBCA is a $40 fee, I saved 20% on rotors (list $920 each) and pads (as noted above). It has to be one of the greatest "no brainers" in recorded history. My dealer applies the discount to Mobil1 ad filter also.

Are they grinding the rotors also? ......Wait for the call, Mr. Luke Ya your rotors are out of spec and need to be replaced for maximum performance.

Ya, I was thinking the same thing, figured the stealership would have stuck it in while they had him bent over.

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
A. rotors can't be ground

not enough material on mb rotors.
Ceramic pads are $70 a set and sensors are 8 bucks each.
If the rotors are smooth slap in new pads bed them in properly and call it good

Rotors are fine. I have a pretty good relationship with the shop foreman and he knows he can't slip anything by me - I'm not your average MB owner. I just wanted to check prices that was more or less the intention of this thread. When the rotors do reach min thickness I will for sure be replacing them with the Evosport lightweight front and rear rotors.

Jimmy- No grinding...I was just told to lightly scuff the rotor with sandpaper to help the new pad bad in. You ever heard anything like that?

004-420-89-20 BRAKE PAD 284.00
171-540-06-17 BRAKE WEA 16.50

326.79 with tax

plus most dealers apply an anti squeak kit and brake paste. Seems fair to me.

Don't forget to unplug the abs module or the pistons won't compress.

Whatever substance you're taking, whether it's legally or illegally obtained, is either too strong or too weak

Confused I am having, fun here for sure . You guys are the best

Someone correct me, my wifes CLK320 with the tilt alarm that we don't have stock on our BS, is the reason I had to take the keys "XXX" feet away from her car when doing pads or else something shoots accross the room?? I know someone here has heard this so I it's not me taking a toke right now
