Camshaft failure on my 26,000 mile black series

Hi guys, bad day for me, I noticed on Sunday that after coming home from the mall a very bad lifter noise, so started reading the forums again about the well documented camshaft and lifter problems on the AMG M156 motor, I knew this was my noise so today I pulled the valve cover and this is what I found, I haven't pulled the cams yet but it's pretty easy to see, I'm absolutely pissed, keep in mind it's only got 26k on the odometer,

Feel for you. Start w/your dealer. Never know, maybe they'll do a good will. Had a rear subframe and blown engine on my E46 M3 done as good will by BMW. My understanding is that the M156 lawsuit didn't go anywhere. Good luck.

This is really unfortunate to hear and see.

Wild guess but looks like an oil supply issues because of the metal wear in the middle of the lobe. The lobe appears to have flat spots towards the edges which could be from valve spring or guide binding from lack of oil flow. Again, just a wild guess. Hopefully a true mechanic will be able to tell exactly what caused this premature failure.

Found this on PL: http://www.mercedes-amg.com/privatel...lem-in-09-ML63

As DB COOPER noted, please us updated on cause and repair progress.

Thanks and Good Luck!

Yikes, sorry to hear! I wasn't even aware that this was a prevalent issue across the M156. This and the head bolt issue are making me paranoid. Are you taking it in?

Cams and lifters are on the way, thankfully I have a good friend that works at a dealer that got the parts for me at a good price, still over $3500 in parts though, I'm doing the work myself, Jerry at Eurocharged lent me the special tools to do the job, ill take a few pics while I'm changing them out, even though only one lobe is screwed up I'm doing all four cams and all of the lifters, I'm keeping this car so ill fix it right the first time, still very passed though, I called the local dealer and they told me seeing it hasn't always been serviced at a dealer that Mercedes won't help me out at all, I mean wow its only ever missed one service at a dealership, its not even due for it third service, and I change the oil and filter every 2000 miles, I have been assured for my friend at the dealer that they did fix the root cause of the problem as far as the cams and lifters go, its absolutely disgusting though,

Thank-You for the update

Are you replacing with stock valve lifters / buckets

or are you replacing with the M159 valve lifters / buckets

From the link above

"According to Fitzhugh, the lifters have since been improved [by Mercedes Benz performance wing AMG]. A newer version, used in the more advanced AMG engine called the M159 (which is built in the SLS AMG) reduces bleed down when the engine is off, thus reducing the chance of premature wear in the valve train when the engine is restarted."

Please continue to keep this thread updated

Thank-You

Not sure any dealer can deny warranty/service work just cuz u didnt service previously with them.....that they dont want to "help" if it is out of warranty is a blessing.
