A few questions about a new to me CLK 63 BS ...

Hi,

Just picked up a 2008 CLK BS with 18k miles. Been looking for one for a while and super happy to finally have found one. I absolutely love it for sooooo many reasons.

Never having owned an MB from this generation, I had a couple of quick questions that you guys can maybe answer.

First a couple of pics of the car:

My first question is does anyone have the PN for the plastic center fan trim? The interior of the car is looking practically new but for this sticky part. I am aware that this is a super well known issue but I'm not looking to clean the part, I just want to have a new one installed and for some reason I can't find the PN for it through search.

My second question, because the dealer forgot to put the books inside and is mailing them to me so I don't have the owners manual handy, is where is the jump starter connection and am I safe to connect a trickle charger to it?

That's it, that's all I got for now.

Congrats on the purchase! You will enjoy it.

id recommend against just replacing the center part as it will just happen again. If you go to your MB dealer, parts department can pull it up. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

as for the trickle charger, I have only seen it done from the battery in the interior. You could technically trickle it from the jump start points in the engine bay with the trickle charger that has the clamps.

enjoy your toy!

+1

I had mine replaced and it looked pretty bad after a year but it still was an improvement..

Mine has a trickle charger connector in the trunk by the drivers tail light. Maybe it was something the previous owner put in I'm not sure but the car is otherwise completely stock. It also came with the Mercedes trickle charger that plugs into the connector in the trunk. Makes life very easy.

Glad you found the part number for the fan vent. I've owned several W209 AMGs and that vent is a common issue. Luckily my black series doesn't look my 05 clk55 vent!

So I have that connector by the tail light too, but my car didn't come with its triple charger.

I was told by my dealer that the right charger for it is part no A0009822921, so I ordered it. It came in today and it isn't the right charger. The plug is completely different.

So if anyone knows what the part number for the correct charger is I would be super grateful.

This is what the male part behind my tail light looks like:

And it itself has an adaptor clip plugged into it that disconnects:

This is what the connector of the trickle charger I got looks like once you remove the lighter adaptor:

So yeah, the wire by my tail lamps has two possible connections to it depending if that small clip is removed or not, neither of which for the charger I got.

Help.

The connectors on your car currently seem to be the same ones I have on my car. It just looks like the wires are missing from the connector. Is it possible to swap the connector onto the charger you just received? I know it's not ideal. The charger itself looks the same to me. I looked for a Mercedes part number on my charger itself but didn't see any despite the Mercedes logo on it. Let me know if you need any other pictures or info, happy to help with what I can. I took a picture of the model number etc in case that helps. It is made by ctek.

Ok so a couple of updates.

1. In regards to the charger. In the two pics of the wire coming out of the tail light area the actual connector is the female plug with the two leads (the other bid is just a clip on cover):

Which males sense because it connects to the male part @blackbenzz kindly posted:

So the head tech, armed with blackbenzz's pics and the cap, is going to modify my charger to have a plug that connects to my car.

All of this would have been easier if I had the part number for the charger specific to the CLK BS but the parts department can't seem to find it, in fact they were the ones that game me the part number of the wrong charger that is getting modified.

Anyhoot, the takeaway is don't misplace your charger.

2. On the subject of my sticky vent trim. The replacement part number (20983002549116) I posted earlier is wrong. That part number is just for the vents.

The good news is that the center trim part is only like $35 and takes a couple of minutes with a trim tool to swap.

It is PN A20983104449116 ... here it is with the yucky old one:

And here's my fancy new unsticky new look.

One note about this however. The round thingies that control air flow are also sticky in my car. Those do not have their own part number. If you want to replace those then there's a whole different part number that swaps the entire fan assembly as opposed to independent elements of it. That's the only way to get those round thingies replaced and that part is $450 and I don't know what labor is involved in installing it, but I can get you that part number if you want it. These vents are always open in my car so I decided that the $35 I spent on the plate were good enough for now.

Amazing the research these small things require, but in the end both these issues will be fixed pretty easily and cheaply.

I’m ordering the MACabon unit later this month. My vent has the “sticky” issue too and I want more carbon fiber in my car.
MACarbon is a great company with fantastic products. I had a friend with their full BS interior kit and it was beautiful. That’s on my list as well as their door sills.

Someting British, something German
My first question is does anyone have the PN for the plastic center fan trim? The interior of the car is looking practically new but for this sticky part. I am aware that this is a super well known issue but I'm not looking to clean the part, I just want to have a new one installed and for some reason I can't find the PN for it through search.
Not an owner (yet!) but just to add that the sticky plastic issue has affected other German marques. Last time I had to deal with it, 2-3 minutes of vigorous scrubbing with a fingernail brush & denatured alcohol resulted in lovely matte-finish virgin plastic.

Also congrats, I hope you enjoy the heck out of her!

Here's an interior shot of the taillight, but I'm not seeing charger hook-up. Am I missing something?

It might have dropped down to the bottom of that opening.

Did you check in there deep?

Smart man, found it deeper in the cavity. Also found the cigarette adapter and the original window sticker, score!

Ok I has a question for them fellow owners ...

When I drive her she makes an unfamiliar sound and I'm wondering if it's one of the characteristics of this car or whether I should have it checked out.

I'm not sure how to describe it, but under compression there's a puffing sound that seems to originate from the suspension, as if I can hear the air going in and out of the shocks. The source of the sound could be something else but it is definitely triggered by the suspension loading and unloading. It's actually more noticeable going straight than under g loads.

I've taken the car out for super aggressive drives, as in 7/10ths of the way I would drive it on track and it handles amazing, so it doesn't appear to be having any issues handling wise.

So I'm inclined to think it's normal but I'd love some reassurance.

Mine is very new to me having just picked it up a little over a month ago. I have no plans to track it but in the 300 miles or so that I’ve put on it, I haven’t noticed any sound that you’re describing in mostly highway driving. The only thing I have noticed is that when the front tires are inflated to 48 pounds, the car rides very hard.
