2012 CLS550 Light Selector Switch
Can anyone tell me if the dial selections on this switch illuminate at night? The center switch knob illuminates but the selections do not; which makes it impossible to set your lights at night if they are not already preset. It is also the only dial that does not illuminate at night. Dealer says that is by design
but I find that fact not plausible considering the overall design of this vehicle. Anyone?

the light selector knob does not light up at night, you are correct. For some reason mercedes started removing the backend lighting on the switch in the recent years.
And yes it is a wtf given the other things in the car.

Thanks for the info. WTF does come to mind wondering what the design and engineering boys were thinking on this one. More than likely, some dumbass number cruncher proposed savings to the management to do this and they went for it. "Let's take off the illumination for the light selector switch but leave everything else illuminated in the vehicle."

Same on new cls5504 as my 2003 and 2006 E55's were
They haven't backlit for awhile. I think they expect us all to leave them set on Auto.

I realized that in my 2012 C-Class Coupe too. I can't determine what mode was I on. My previous BMW was the opposite. The selector doesn't light up but the options did. Annoying, agree...
