Renntech Tune For Cls550

Just spoke to george at renntech and got some results for the Renntech ecu tune. A customer ran a s550 biturbo with the tune and without.

1/4 mile Bone stock 12.89
1/4 with tune 11.73.

With the Cls being lighter by a couple hundred pounds we should be looking at the same or better results. That is crazy we would be looking at a 0-60 time in the high 3 seconds! Just a little slower than the amg.

When my car comes i will be doing this tune immediately and will give more feedback.

that's great news. I wonder what our cars would make with a full exhaust and a tune.

Awesome! Please let us know of your results. I had OE Tuning upgrade mine, however, I don't think I am anywhere near those (Renntech) improvements.

But ill wait for the meisterschaft. my wife threw away my dyno runs thinking it was garbage - i think i took a picture of it on my iphone. will try to post if i can figure out how toput pictures up.

dang. Huge improvement.

Makes me wonder what the E550 coupe will do, being it only weighs 3700lbs.

yeh the e550 coupe ecu will cut the throttle off every time you hit the gas which is so freaking annoying lol (to turn off the traction control every time is even more annoying) that's why I got the cls550 4matic. Style and power with traction.

If an E550 Coupe is fitted with performance tires, it will make a big difference in traction. Most complaints about traction are because of the standard all-season tires. Also can fit 10" wide wheels to the E coupe and go to a 275 tire for even more traction.
Not as much traction as a 4 matic though .

Totally on point, the added grip with upgraded tires will help with the traction problem on the rwd vehicles but as my previous experience with the tuned c63, the problem of ecu cutting throttle will still exists, Especially for a rwd car with renntech claimed 606ft/ibs tq I highly doubt it will cure that problem with the lack of lsd, whereas the awd verison will have uninterrupted acceleration under stoplight cornering acceleration and and not to mention wet surfaces.

This was posted on the E Coupe site. The poster (Raygt3) owns a '12 E550C: same engine as a CLS550.
"Just got my ECU back from Renntech, dramatic difference. Had the dealership handle everything, charged me 1 hour labor. Figured it was cheap insurance, gets me out of the loop should any issues come up. Great service, great results. Dealer assured me there were no warante related issues tied to the upgrade. Actually prretty comfortable with this and everyone's approach. Geez, glad I went to fat 19" tires. In sport mode the car will really get your attention. The change in "tip in" is pretty obvious"

I enjoy hearing these positive reviews... wish there were more details/info after a few miles on these tunes.

shayshay- Do you have the numbers from your dyno run? I can help post the pictures if needed. Feel free to PM me for assistance.

Surprising that the new SL65 only has 285s in the rear, which is the same as the non-AMG CLS.

This was posted by RENNtech on another site in response to a poster's questions:

"The M278 4.7L V8 Biturbo with a tune will actually perform better all around with the increase(d) torque. Usually customers with heavier 4matics such as S, ML & CL class will notice great initial drive dynamics acceleration increase from stock.

It will be comparable in performance acceleration of similar AMG63 class w/o PP biturbo cars. Some other points:

1) Fuel economy will remain same if you can drive the same way after the tune.
2) Speed limiter can be raised upon customer request
3) Transmission adaptation shift points remains same in Comfort or Sport mode.
4) Tune are available (for) optional high flow kat downpipes, and/or modified ECO mode stop start at no additional charge."

Thanks for the information, im glad they can raise the speed limiter. So renntech came out with downpipes ? Because i saw it on there website for the 63, but not for the 550. Can't wait to here what those will sound like!

From what I understand the downpipes are in the development stage at this time. We need more sound

I did the RENN Tech ECU tune on 5/01/2012. We did not do a baseline run at the track but did go to PBIR later that day (eve) . Had not been to the track in 10 years. My first pass was actually fairly good considering. Ran 12.9 / 112. Did several more passes and each time improved a tenth. Steve, the guy who drives the 9 and 10 second Benz's and also , (I believe ) the 11 sec CLS63 AMG took mine down a few times and got to 12.3. It was getting late and the conditions were very warm and humid.
This was with tune only. With a few more trips to the track and different tires and of course other mods no doubt the car will be in the 11's. DYNO RWHP 436 TQ 510. That's all for now.
FYI. I have had my Storm Red CLS 550 for 9 months and have 20, 000 miles with no mechanical issues, just a windshield replacement from all the sand and stone chips in my cross cou ntry trip from Naples, Fl. to Big Sur

I guess you could call it 2 wheel drive. Its really 1 wheel with esp. At the track you need to do "dyno"

Now that's funny! But true...
Still don't understand the lack of LSD on the vehicles with the M278. Not even an option on the E550C and Quaife doesn't have a unit that will fit the
'12.
Please keep us posted when you break into the 11's!

Sorry, I forgot the sequence. If you get the ECU tune I am sure the tuners will clue you in. It does temporarily disengage all the safety and control stuff built into the car.
