Auto transport suggestions?
Im having my 218 transported from socal to saint louis and im using a company called VLP. They seem pretty professional but charge about 1280$ for open transport. Has anyone shipped with other companies that are reliable, and do you think open transport is ok. They told me the safest place for the car is the top front position behind the truck. Im just wondering if i should close transport it. The price jumps to 1800. What would you do? Any comments appreciated. I like how audi wraps their new cars on open transport. Is there anything aftermarket i could purchase similar to protect the paint from sand rock etc.

with all respect , your smoking crack to ship it open....
i have shipped many cars in various ways, and all the cars that i have some concern for go closed
intercity lines, is probably about 1500, but worth every penny
is your shipper via broker?? usually they are....not a good move...
poff transportation is a husband wife team, i used them once from orange to chicago, excellent.
go closed or drive it your self
i rest my case

VLP owns their own trucks, and as they explained it they usually move cars under 100k open container. As the agent said it is usually safe to transport this time of year open container as opposed to closed. And no im not smoking crack just have a tight corporate budget allowance for the home and vehicle move and my finances are tight right now. I doubt any of our cars are shipped to dealers closed with the exception of the higher end AMG. Thats why i questioned the need to transport closed on my CLS

good luck, but see if you can find a closed for that price
maybe
also check if its really door to door, some say they are and drop off the car at a shippping yard and then put it on another truck and bring it too you
make sure u take lots of before and after pics for your records
car cover tarp?, or even the protective white peices the dealers have when the car get shipped to them, maybe you can pick some of that up....

I have used Pilot Transport 3 times in the last 10 years and they are one of the best in the industry. Btw, always inclosed!

You guys convinced me to go with closed. The few hundred dollars in savings is not worth the risk of damaging a black new car that would show every scratch, dent etc. Hoop i called Pilot and they gave me a very reasonable price for closed transport. Thanks for the advice.

With all due respect Sarah, you've just joined this month and posted 4 times in 3 different forums about your transport experience with American Auto Move. I think thats weird! What's up with that!!

is Open Transport Ok?
I have seen many consumers confused in order to decide between open and enclosed auto trailers. Listen, Open or enclosed does not matter enough. What actually matters is expertise the company you are hiring. If you know your auto mover is professional and knows how to handle vehicles loaded on trailer, then you need not to worry. Almost every vehicle (except those having exceptional dimensions) can withstand open auto carriers. So instead of worrying about auto trailers, know expertise of the company you are hiring.

Actually open versus closed is important to many of us since we love our cars. Sm parnel have you ever heard of hail, or flying rocks?

According to my opinion, enclosed trailers are safer than others. There are many companies which are providing such trailers for auto shipment within affordable cost.
