Car went nuts this morning

This morning when I started my car, the dash went nuts and said Distronic wasn't working, esp wasn't working, lane assist...etc! I drove maybe a quarter mile and stopped and turned off the car. I restarted it and everything was fine...?!?!?!

Any thoughts?

Did you have it tuned?
Otherwise, that's strange.

Hate to say it, but that's the nature of our high tech cars today. Just like any Smart Phones. It will crash and may act weird sometimes. My 2011 Bmw 550 Gt did the same, but dealer never found the problem. Let's hope it stays normal from now. I would bring it in anyways just to let them see if any codes may appear.

GL.

This happened to me in the snow once. It was snowing/hailing and there was slush all over the car. You will get a myriad of warnings like that anytime the radar emitter behind the large star in the grille is blocked. This also happened once again while I was in a car wash. When I was in the snow, the warnings went away after about 5 or 10 minutes. After the car wash, I pulled over and restarted the car, and the messages were gone.

Any chance some dirt or heavy rain could have been blocking the radar emitter?

I had the distronic/blindspot assist not available pop up while driving through the mountains in some fog two weeks ago. After a couple miles another message popped up saying they were available again.

Had experienced the same a couple times over 3 years in our S that had distronic as well

Same thing here. Restarted the car and the message went away.

Not surprising. Fog is reflective to radar and will confuse it. The system was not malfunctioning, simply warning you not to rely on it in such conditions.

When it happened to me was in the morning. I park in my garage so rain or fog couldn't be the issue. I need to visit the dealer I believe.

Yes, since you had failures in unrelated functions, such as ESP and Distronic, it was definitely a computer glitch that should have thrown codes. It's worth having the dealer pull the codes and see if it's a known problem.

Of course when you put your car in the control of computers, you are subject to the same random events that happen on our desktop/laptops, etc which are sometimes impossible to diagnose.

Regards,
Don

The battery was not fully charged (car sitting for a long time?) or is otherwise bad/not holding a charge. Yes, I know it had just started the car. I had a similar experience on my W204 C - read a post here of someone with the same problem (ESP engaging, dash lights, restart car and it goes away), changed the battery, never had the problem again.
