Can somone tell me what measuments you used to place the emblems?
When I did mine, I studied the placement using AMG car photos such as the one attached. Based on that, it looks to me that the text lines up with the gap between the tire and the top of the wheel opening. So I ran a piece of masking tape as a baseline for the top of the lettering from the top of the wheel arch opening to the door at a very slight angle (so it’s a bit raked). Then I put another strip of tape parallel to that as the baseline for the bottom of the lettering a letter height lower down the panel. I then started about one big letter width from the door.
I plan on doing this to my CLS550 when I get it but the lettering I got are crooked and going to be a complete pain to put on straight and evenly...
All the letters I’ve seen all come as individual pieces so it doesn’t matter if they come straight or messed up, it’s still up to you to apply them correctly.
Note me that there is a different lettering style for pre-facelift vs post-facelift if you are picky. Mercedes changed the lettering on the back and fenders with the facelift to use a more pointy face (less flat).
Can anyone post a good website (ebay?) where I can buy a pair of these for my 2014 CLS ? Looking for OEM or good facsimile. Have been on ebay but the offers vary greatly from super cheap to super expensive
Not sure what exactly I'm looking for
thanks
I put the painters tape at what I thought looked to be the best level. Measured off of the creases on the car, and from wheel well. Then just copied it over to the other side.
How did you "choose" to pick where to place them and to be exact on both sides?
See my thoughts on this in post 26. The fact is, it doesn’t really matter as long as you’re happy with it and the letters weren’t put on drunk. You’ll never see both sides at the same time.
I saw a black CLS 550 today I look as I am obviously a fan...I have taken off the blue efficiency tag on the sides of mine...I noticed so did this guy but in its place he put the V8 Bi Turbo badge (lettering) Initially before I saw the exhaust I thought it was the CLS63 but it was a 550 like mine...His car looked good and I liked the lettering on the side...But its kind of a poser move...
What are the thoughts about doing this? I know this has been touched before...But unlike most fake out moves on cars...Our is a V8 bi turbo so he is not lying....
This is for sure not from factory right?
Any other owners here doing this?
Here's the thing, ITS YOUR CAR DO AS YOU WISH. People have been cloning for YEARS and YEARS. My 16 CLS 550 4matic is an AMG SPORT and it is a V8biturbo so not really posing. Now the person were to put CL63 in the back and had the back bumper would you even know the difference unless you looked inside? Would you really care??? I don't care about badging on a car its a none issue as no one is looking at the badging, they are admiring the car itself or atleast I am.
Do what will make YOU happy and not what think others will like.

I just put some V8biturbo badges on the side of my CLS, It looks good, and shows exactly I have under the hood! the installation was ball parked with a single measuring tape, so my badges aren't exactly the same on both sides lol.
