Racing Brake CLS Upgrade Package?
Hello All,
I am talking with racingbrake.com about producing an adapter plate and brake package, to upgrade CLS 550 front and rear calipers/rotors to those found on the CLS 63. If others are interested post here, so we can speed this up and maybe get a group buy going.
Thanks!!!

Your Front: 4 pot caliper with 1 pc rotor 360x36
Your rear: Floating caliper with 1 pc rotor 320x24 (drum=180mm)
Look like you can use our E63 BBK to upgrade to:
Front: 6 piston caliper 390x36 rotor
Rear: 4 piston caliper 360x26 rotor
https://www.racingbrake.com/ProductD...Code=MB-IRK-14
This kit includes 2 rear 4 piston calipers, but you would require 2 sets of front 6 piston calipers (estd. $1,450 extra) to replace your stock 4 piston calipers in order to complete the install.

Hello again, thank you for your reply! There are two sets of available brake packages from MB; the traditional rotors and the carbon ceramic ones. The carbon ones come in gold and black, but the conventional rotor AMG brake package, for the CLS, comes in red, a different gold (that I would like), and silver. Is there any way to source these gold calipers for the brake package I will purchase from you? I did send a private message with part numbers, if that helps. Please let me know your thoughts, as I would like to finalize and place my order with you ASAP. Thanks and I look forward to doing business together!

We were stumbling on the spindle identification and looks like we will need to purchase one from the MB dealer for development.
Also there are two possible set ups - CCB Gold calipers and Iron Red calipers and of course the price will also vary based on the calipers.
So there are more to work on this upgrade until we have the required parts and cost information available, although anyone interested in this upgrade can always express here.

The above gentleman is correct. The stock brake package looks anemic behind the wheels, and I am sure all CLS owners have felt the less than optimal braking power the factory setup provides with such a large and heavy vehicle. The CLS is almost perfect, but the factory brakes hold it back. Not just for looks, but also for safety. Let's all get in on this buy!!!

Hopefully Racing Brakes can post some examples for you, and anyone who is interested. This kit will adapt the massive SL65 front/rear 6/4 piston and extra large two-piece rotor setup, to the CLS. They already do this for the E class, which has been a huge success. This is going to transform both the looks and performance of your CLS; just hope we can get enough people interested!

Some pictures from a C63 customer upgrading to RB BBK.
C63 front rotor 360x36mm with 6 pot calipers (original caliper re-used) - Upgrade to 390x36mm rotor.
C63 rear rotor 330x26mm with 4 pot calipers (need new 4 pot caliper), upgrade to 360x26mm rotor.
After this upgrade his brake will be the same as Black Series (390/360) brake set up.
390mm rotors with OE huge 6-pot caliper under 19" wheels
Rear 4 pot 360mm rotor kit
You can refer to this thread for further details on the BBK upgrade.

We are taking a closer look into the development of a better and bigger brake to solve seems the only weakness of this amazing sporty luxurious coupe - BRAKE.
Currently we only have two piece replacement rotors for CLS63 (07-12)
http://www.racingbrake.com/Mercedes-.../mb-irk-07.htm
And retrofit BBK for other models such as C63 & E63 as shown in above pictures. No brake kits is yet finalized for CLS but hopefully will be soon!
RB is proud to offer comprehensive brake upgrade for Mercedes owners from a simple brake pad replacement, (we understand don't want the dusty and squeaky braking) to light weight true high performance two piece rotors, retrofit BBK (using stock calipers), or the complete brake system with RB calipers.
Whether you are looking for a better and more durable brake that can stop the heavy Mercedes as it should be*, or improving riding comfort and easy modulation - We have a solution, our parts cost only fraction of a dealer's brake job who only replace the brake pads and turn the rotors.
If you can't find what you need PM or call us 714-871-6392
* OE claims it from their software set up, but RB brake provides the real mechanical advantage which still can't be substituted even in an electronic age we are today.

I purchased my CLS because I wanted a big, yet powerful full-size luxury vehicle, that was still agile and sporty while providing comfort and safety. I love it so far, and it has certainly surpassed my expectations. The all-wheel-drive is phenomenal, and the car drives, handles, and accelerates like a small sports car while being a full-size premium sedan. The car is great from the factory, but being that it is so big and heavy, yet so powerful and offers so much performance, that the factory brakes can become taxed easily. This is the only aspect of the vehicle that leaves something to be desired. The stock brakes are the Achilles heel, of an otherwise surprisingly superb vehicle. By upgrading the factory CLS brakes to the custom Racing Brakes package we are putting together, I hope to transform the vehicle to have perfect attributes. The increased braking performance will provide confidence under both normal and spirited driving, and positively affect all aspects of driving dynamics. The CLS will have its one and only problem solved! Upgrading the brakes of the CLS won't only make it a better and more rewarding car to drive, but will also make it a far more safe vehicle to drive. It's a win-win upgrade! I am sure we have all felt the weakness of the stock setup during spirited driving, and surprise stops. The car is simply too heavy and accelerates too quickly for the stock brakes. An upgraded big brake kit will certainly make the car much safer, which is of huge importance to me. Confidence under braking is the only thing missing; I can't wait for this upgrade! Oh, and this big brake kit is noticeably lighter than the stock setup, which will reduce unsrung mass. So, this brake kit will make the car quicker and handle better too....I gues that's a win-win-win lol

Thank you for posting your feedback on your CLS experience and the needed improvement on brake to make this sports car even "more" perfect.
Does other CLS owners feel the same? Please feel free to share your opinion that's what this forum is all about!
Our mission is to provide brake solution for the car where the improvement is needed, and we committed to this brake development so to ensure ALL Mercedes owners have a reliable source for their braking needs; from a simple brake pad replacement to a complete brake system upgrade.
Except OEM parts swap, RB is the world's most comprehensive brake store for Mercedes when it comes to brake upgrade.

Safety is #1 concern for me & my family. I'm sure everyone feels the same way.
With W219 Cls500/550 from 2006-2012 ( mine is 2006), I upgraded mine from stock to AMG SL55 kit (8 piston front & 4 rear) from 2004 with slight modification on the mounting bolts ( small vs larger in diameter)... Great and wasn't hard to do. Rear wheel drive too.
Now, with current W218 cls550 4matic, the front brake is big brake kit, it doesn't look that bad but seeing the rear ones, I'm disappointed a lot. I was hoping to buy a straight/direct kit for just the rear. Really, what's available? We are counting on RB for sure.

Current is W218 and older models (06-12) is W219? little confused.
As for the newer models (2013+) Thanks to "CLS Custom", we are good on rear (spindle specs are verified), but the front is still pending for the receipt of spindle knuckle/hub purchased from MB dealer in about a week.
Our data book shows the rear rotor for SL400/550 is 320mm which we plan to upsize it to 360mm with front of 390mm which is the standard set up as C63 BS and those high end S/SLS models.
So the rotor size for the proposed BBK will be:
Front: 390x36mm
Rear: 360x26mm
For CLS400 and CLS550, you would need also the 6 pot (front) and 4 pot (rear) calipers.
For CLS63, you can re-use the front (and perhaps rear also) calipers, RB will supply proper caliper adaptors to upsize to 390mm rotors.
Kits will include calipers (OE or RB), two piece rotors and brake pads for a bolt on installation.
