a cheep and clean way to do it is with plastidip. if you dont like it just peel it off. Comes off easily while not harming your chrome. I've done it on some of my former cars and it comes out nice.

From my experience, plasti dip works well on 90% of everything it is applied to except window trim for some reason. I have had more customers come by after trying to plasti dip their window trim pieces and having it not work out for one reason or another, and then needed me to go ahead and wrap their trim with vinyl instead.
Plasti dip for the most part is harmless enough. However, plasti dip makes its way into small and tight areas of the trim, which can interfere with the vinyl wrap later on, if for some reason you decided that the plasti dip was not working out.
don, you are the master when it comes to wraps..... I havent tried to dip aluminum only wheels and emblems (plastic). I'm sure that you have a lot more real world experience with that then I do.
OP As far as peeling the chrome off... WTF!!!!!
Looks really good! Definately the look I'm going for. Did you do it yourself or had it done somewhere?
I would plastic dip the trims myself, but I want the gloss look insted.
The door trim, as well as the 2 chrome pieces in the rear cost about 350 to do. I got quotes ranging from 250-700. I went with a local place that had a lot of good reviews and experience with Mercedes.

Getting it done tomorrow. I will post some pics soon.
I was finally able to take few photos of my blacked out chrome trims. I decided to keep the front and rear star chrome to match up(somewhat) with wheels.
