Buying certified 13' CLS550
Need to "upgrade", will I be satisfied? Does the powertrain remain reliable with a tune?
What are the common issues, i know i'll get +1 yr with the MBCPO but what about after that?
I think you gonna love it. Much more refined and powerful then 335xi. You will lose some of the "fun to drive and take corners" factor...
Bottom line: if you are looking for a luxury and fast cruiser - this could be it.
Good luck!
My 335xi is the AWD version due to winter and it's my daily driver, with the modifications it runs 12.80s@108-109 at the local drag strip and has been incredibly unreilable as they all are, I wonder how much "worse" the CLS handles a corner given the AWD bmws do not get sport suspensions?
I have a C6 corvette for summer driving so i'm looking for a "nicer than 335" daily driver that's HOPEFULLY more reliable!
If you are looking for a daily, I think it doesn't get better then CLS for the money.
It will run low 12's with tune and high 12's bone stock.
As far as reliability goes, I think it's above average. I had a E63 previously for couple of years with zero issues and this one for over 6 months and zero problems as well.
Anytime you install a tune, the car has a chance of becoming less reliable, of course you know about the possible warranty issues as well. With that said, we had a E90 335i Xdrive a while ago, the CLS550 is a class above in my opinion. The CLS550 is just as quick as the 535i but much more refine and luxurious. Handling wise, the E90 is a notch above. Steering wise, the E90 is heavier but not necessarily better than the CLS550. Material quality and workmanships between the two cars are world apart. Make sure you get the contort seats with the auto side bolsters, they really help in spirited driving. In my option, the Mercedes V8 TT engine is very reliable, no wide spread issues that I know of. Much more reliable than the BMW V8 TT engine.
Not my style, 335 is lightyears better for me.
Me coming from such a big car (7 series), I felt that the CLS was a bit tight inside for me at the time, plus the 2 + 2 seating and lack of panoramic roof option pushed me towards the S Class.
I will say this, that the Vehicle you are looking at is pre-owned and the previous owners driving style may have been much different than yours. With MB cars unless new, that tranny memory is serious. I would suggest you have the dealer do a hard reset on the trans which may require an update but it's totally worth it. Otherwise, test drive a 2016 and compare that to your bimmer to get a true comparison.
Good luck wi your search.
