Need Wheel help!! Have never purchased after market wheel before and deciding between

Hello!

looking to purchase rims for my 2014 CLS and was wondering if i should stick with 19s or if i go with 20s will they cause my tires to wear out faster? I am a serious noob when it comes to wheels and tires so any info is appreciated in this particular circumstance!

19's tire wise are typically more expensive than 20's.
20's ALWAYS look better, but 19's will give you a little more sidewall on the tire.
25mm positive offset front.
33mm positive offset rear in 19 or 20.

I'm looking to buy 20" Vossen VFS-6 for my 2014 CLS550, 20 x 10.5" +42 offset for the rear with 305/25/20 and 20 x 9" +32 offset for the front with 255/30/20, that has been the recommendation for sizes, offsets by many.

I recommend 20's with offsets that unlukky suggested. Use 245/35/20 front and 285/30/20 rear (Michelin Super Sport - K1) tires. That is the same sidewall you get with factory 19's but they fit without any issues. Anything less then that sidewall makes the ride too bumpy in my opinion.

hows the ride quality/performance on 20s though? any difference compared to the stock 19s?

I can appreciate the idea of keeping the height ratio as the stock 19's but I would prefer to retain the same rolling overall diameter which the 305/25/20 & 255/30/20 match almost perfectly. The 285/30/20 add's 1" to the OAD and is 1/2 pound heavier and the 245/35/20 add's 0.8" to the fronts OAD and is over a pound heavier. Also, a speedometer calibration might be needed.
Just my opinion...

yuck! speed calibration? sounds like too much just to gain an inch of rim... i may just stick to 19s to be safe!

You can go with 20's and keep the same OD.
The differences he mentioned are negligible. Like 3mph or something like that. I wouldnt even worry about it.

Do you have a Cls550 4 matic or base?

With 4 matic, you better use same tire have the OAD. Otherwise, try to put up some tire to reduce the UNDER STEER that comes with the car. The speedometer will be change if you put a tire with different OAD in the rear but the front will not affect the speedometer. The closest OAD to the OE on 20" is 295/25/20 or 305/25/20. Both are within 1% OAD compare to the OE.

The car already have serious under steer with the OE tire of 255 front 285 rear Don't put a tire that's even smaller than the OE in front to increase under steer.

I stuck with 19s cause I do a lot of driving from NJ to Boston and roads aren't friendly. If I lived in NC like I did earlier this year, would have gone 20"s all day

Exact offsets I went with with same wheel, but in 19's. Can you please let me know if you have any issues with the front caliper?
