Does the rear back up camera retract?

Does the rear back up camera retract?
I have parktronic and I’ve noticed that my rear camera by the license plate is always out. Is this normal for a 2016 CLS 550? Or is it supposed to retract back inside?

Once the car gets above 15 mph it will retract, have some drive behind you to check it. Or drive above 15 mph and then stop and put the car in Park, then you can get out and look yourself as long as you don't get into Reverse.

Well the issue I’ve noticed is that my camera is always out by the license plate. I’m not sure if mine is supposed to retract back in. If it’s supposed to then the mechanism is not working

You need to check it as described. There's also a way to manually open and close it in the Command menu but I don't remember the sequence. If broken it's off to the dealer but check it out first.

Although described in the manual, I do not know one single C218 with retractable rear view camera or with camera protection flap. As far as I know, it was planned for the C218, but never implemented. On my model year 2015, the camera is fixed and always out, as well as on a friends 2016 CLS.

Although described in the manual, I do not know one single C218 with retractable rear view camera or with camera protection flap. As far as I know, it was planned for the C218, but never implemented. On my model year 2015, the camera is fixed and always out, as well as on a friends 2016 CLS.
I was fumbling around the COMMAND system and I couldn’t even find an option to activate/deactivate the rear view camera. So I believe you are correct and it does not retract.. thank you for the feedback!

im with Drewsky... Just looked at your user manual and it shows the protruding camera... I don't think that retracts even though the manual says camera flap all over the place...
in my gle the MB star emblem is a flap that opens up and the camera is exposed... kinda neat actually...
