7g tranny issues on cls?

I’ve seen a few complaints about a weakness in the 7g tranny. Does this affect 2012-2014 (maybe others) cls 550 (or others)?

Had xmission completely replaced at ~15000 mi. It had a very noticeable bump down shifting from 5th to 4th. I dont abuse the car and even now (31000mi) it still has smooth shifting issues. VERY disappointing.

Good luck.

I got 101k on my 14 base model and trans shifts pretty well for the mileage, I feel it’s super smooth 95% of the time. My Personal experience is I do notice a little stutter between 3and 4th and from 4th back to 3rd once in a while I’ll notice it. But I still say I ABSOLUTELY LOVE DRIVING this car. I do want to upgrade my trans at renntech because I want to tune it and I hear the tune takes that issue out completely also I think At the mileage I’m at with a tune that’s a good idea to do the trans upgrade so am looking forward to that
thats my .02

I'm under warranty for 3 more years. Wondering if this car is ok to own outside of warranty, i.e. should keep car and tune it or trade it in at that time and maybe get a used AMG 4 door coupe. Judging from my past of upgrading cars then selling them, I should just trade it in and get the AMG 4 door. But man I love this car.

You've got three more years to decide, enjoy it and get a tune (OBD II)! Marv

I was coming from a 2008 c 300 so the c63 2012 I was looking at didn’t have much difference other than the obvious 6.3 monster under hood and sears were better which was super tempting and so much fun to drive but test driving the 2014 cls with the dark wood trim and the car has no flaws inside. The comfort mode and sport mode is awesome Just has high miles with some scratches on hood small dent on hood and scratches on grill. But the car drives excellent and it’s got plenty of power plus I got a little warranty from the dealer until 2024 or 150k as opposed to the amg no warranty and a lot of extended warranty companies won’t even cover an amg plus the price was about 6k lower. I had it in my mind c63 the whole time looking but the interior and the exterior of the cls is so attractive to me. But I’m very happy and I will be tuning here real soon, right after I close on this house in sept lol my wife said I can do the trans upgrade, and tune at renntech if I got us a bigger house for all the kids we have now lol it was a deal we made, I’m still going to get a amg for sure but financially and aesthetically the cls550 was the best option and if tuned right we can keep up with a few of the amgs out there but I will not trade this in just work some extra hours and keep the cls 550 and get either a Cl 63 or 65 or a cls 63 but either way it’s coming next summer. I will let you know also I had taken the vehicle to a local spot that specializes specifically in Mercedes and he did the b service and a few other things I had him check out he said car was really solid and running great but he mentioned that I would “get some extra love out of it if I replaced the engine and transmission bolts” quoted 1023.00 so I will be doing that before trans upgrade and tune. Really happy with the car
