At some tracks they have race gas, but also, it sits and has the chance of getting water. I dont think they get inspected often. The tanks that is. ME!! I will purchase mine from a race gas distributor. You can actually order in 5 gallon pales online and they will deliver to your door. The tuners are tight lipped about how much actual boost and timing. I would not run the 100 octane tune with 93 octane fuel. UNLESS you have excess money to blow on a new engine. I know some of you are RICH. You have 5 CLS400s and want to use one as a race car. Me? I do ok. I dont want to be paying payments on a car I am buying a new engine for. Now if OE has any tune updates for 93 octane that will get me to 525hp safely. Of course I will take it. However, I would like to be able to take it back to stock when I go to the dealership.
You won't spray it...

Interesting about the category 8 - what is that about? Never heard about, but definitely not interested in being blacklisted either

I got the OE Tune finally installed on my car (after quite of troubleshooting due to a blown OBD-II fuse...) and will say that i can feel the difference. The power delivery is a bit different, but i do feel it being faster. Not a lot faster, but satisfied with the tuning. Funny thing, wanted to check something on their website and didn't see any more the tune for the CLS400 model available (?!?!)

Ghostty, It means if they know you're tuned, they will classify your car as category 8 in their system. Anytime you have a warranty question they will do everything they can to deny the claim. It's not worth the hassle. Put your car back to the Original tune before you take your car in.

It's the same as the other 400s. They have switched to the cls450.

Considering the car is out of warranty already, should i worry about? Will they have any issues servicing it like regular service? Oil changes / parts / labor?

I'm more of a DIY type of guy, so taking it to the dealer is my last resort but the info is good to know in case of something...

Ghosttly,
If you're out of warranty the only thing that might come into play is if they had a campaign or recall on a part of your car that they considered was impacted by the tune. Advice for all is to remove the tune prior to taking it to your dealer. If you're DIY, you're probably golden. Marv

Cool, thank you for the details. Per tuner' advice, i would definitely keep that in mind as well, just curious about it all

And yes, in the 8+ years with MB cars that i had, the only time i had to take it to the dealer was to replace EIN module, as it was something needing coding to the car' VIN, which i didn't want to bite the bullet on doing myself. This forum kept me away from the big bills for sure

Yes its best to play it safe and take the tune off before going to the dealer. I did the same for our Caddy. The caddy is out of warranty and I still take the tune off when I take it in. It's an easy process. The risk is too high to not take the tune off. I know for me once my warranty is gone I will be trading in on a newer Benz. Starting all over with the tuning process.

Once warranty is up, keep the tune on the car when going to the dealership, at that point there's no reason to take it off.

Unless there is a recall on systems that they would not perform on your tuned car. Engine Tranny, driveline, diffs, ECU, etc. It's so easy and quick to change, why not do it.

OE says take tune off. By some chance the dealership does a computer update the tune would be either completely removed or Messed up. Easier to pull off. If update send the updated stock tune to OE and have them work around it. It's wise to take your tuners advice.

My local dealer actually asked me if there was a tune on the car when I brought it in for a recall "software update". They noticed it because my exhaust wasn't stock (secondary cats & resonators cut). He said I should remove it first otherwise the update would wipe it. Totally forthcoming and honest, but my SA was a younger guy who drove a W204 C63. Your mileage may vary.

Hey Del, my SA has told me, off the record, to make sure I remove the tune before coming to the dealership too. Marv

Those are good SAs. When I was big into GM a local dealership offered modifications as long as they did them. They would maintain your warranty.

Let me tell you this, guys - you don't feel as much the addition in power after the tune as much as you feel the lack of it when you upload the stock tune when taking it to the dealer! I did not expect it to feel it that much! even with the delivery of power being more linear (max torque from 1500 to 4000 RPM or so vs a more aggressive tune) did not make me regret the tune! So, for anyone considering a small / Stage 1 tune for a bargain price - i'd do it again

I just had my CLS550 in the dealership for a Service Campaign to replace the steering rack bolts. Changed from Aluminum to high-grade steel bolts. Important to note that the repair invoice shows they did hook up their Star machine to my system. It doesn't say if they checked anything, just hooked up. That's why I think it's important to remove your tune before going to the dealership. Marv

My CLS400 needed a little more 'pep' - I added a Power Pack tuner to it from these guys https://protuningusa.com/product/pow...z-3-0l-turbos/
It now responds MUCH quicker and the turbo kicks in faster. Can you remove your tune easily before getting service? This thing unplugs in seconds and I am back to stock, plug and play. It is like a JB+ for Mercedes.

Why? Similarly just as easily installed/uninstalled Dinan Tuner is a better performer from much more proven reliability wise company.

Are people stacking tunes with the power pack? That could be risky.
