Tire Diameters

Our CLS has had the front tires replaced from road hazard damages. The rears are 22000 more miles that the fronts now. Is a Mismatch in tire diameter going to damage they 4matic in any way?

What is the life span of Continental tires anyway. We have noticed a lot of tire droning especially from the rear of the car.

There is a size combination that the 4matic system works with. Usually you can find couple of recommended sizes on the B pillar when you open the driver door or in the manual. More sizes that fit the car you can find just by searching this forum. I posted a list of that on another topic recently:
https://mbworld.org/forums/cls-coupe...inch-rims.html

Lifespan of tires depends on driving style and type of tires - summer / all season... Even within same brand you will find different estimates. I've read plenty of comments about Michelin being the best tires, but they worn out the fastest. I use Kumho, quite pleased by performance. Don't have an idea about lifespan, as i've been changing cars more than tires

Regards.

Thanks for your response. I was inquiring about the loss of diameter due to wear of the tire. The back tires now have a smaller diameter than when new. Does this put a strain on the 4matic?

No, that difference due to wear and tear is negligible. And it happens all the time on cars with staggered tires - you cannot rotate them as on squared setup, so you're stuck with the rear tires wearing faster due the RWD.

Another forum member drives his car like he stole it, so he replaces his rear tires every 20k miles

what tires last 20k? Lol I ended up getting the Nankangs, yea not the best ones lol. And the rears are almost bald...maybe another 300-500 miles left. They lasted approx 6-7k miles. I always pull this thing whenever I drive it. Don't drive it that often. Have prius as a commuter. I bought a slightly used Continentals. Approx 90% tread remaining. Will put em up next week and see how long they last.

Yea Michellin tires wear out quick, but also tend to be softer and more grip.
