Did part of my B7 service... just the filters.

Hello,

I replaced my air filters with KN filters along with a Bosch cabin air filter.

Anyone run with KN?

2015 CLS

Nope. How much did those filters run you up to?
And are those air intake tubes stock? I think MB cheaped out on air intake tubes on earlier models. Mine unravelled and had to buy aftermarket ones that can contract and extend. SMH.

@Jambert Corpus mine is 2012. The cloth air intake tubes with wire didn't hold up. One unravelled when I was cleaning the air filter. It left a small gap and the air probably leaked before it went to the filter. Second tube got completely sucked into the filter housing. I have ECU tune from EC, I guess the higher air suction pressure collapsed it. The worst part is that if one ring gets misplaced somehow, i don't think there is a way to put it back to its original place and have a perfect seal. Nice to see that they changed it on the face lifted models.

I bought those, 2 orders. Total of $40 ish. You will have to cut the tube to fit our car bc those tubes are kinda long. Just a knife and a plier to cut a thin metal wire in it. Just twist and smush the wire with the plier so it doesn't poke a hole. It comes with 1 adapter to go on the intake housing that sits on the front, right above the radiator. Just make sure you clean that out.

Then I had to buy 2 silicone adapters/coupler for that tube to fit on the housing of air filter. Here is the link to those:
http://www.siliconeintakes.com/silic...ses-p-617.html
If you decide to get this set up, just make sure you place them in some heat so they can soften up in order for them to be installed. They all usually come in a deformed shape in the mail.

I've look at VRP Speed's air intake tubes, here: https://www.vrpspeed.com/product/vrp...bes-w212-w207/

Those are the same silicone adapters/couplers the VRP Speed uses on each end as the ones I posted the link up there. VRP took off the description now, but when they did had the description, it matched the description that I bought.

Also, if you want, you can only order 1 set of air intake tube from Amazon and can cut in half and it's long enough to be used on both sides. Just get 1 extra coupler from that website. I didn't know, I should have done that. But that way, you're looking at saving maybe 12-14 bucks. Minimal, but something.

I've seen stock Air intake tubes from CLS going for $50-80 a piece. I didn't bother because it might go to waste again. They're really simple to install. LMK if you need more info

Silicone couplers are Generic. Ours do not come from the link provided, but yes, we use one long and one short silicone coupler with our intake tubes.

@Suppaa Mario yes, once i get home from work maybe later today or tomorrow.

@VictoryRoadPerformance oh yeah, they are generic ones but had the similar spec listed. Plus i believe you guys use slightly diff front end thing that connects to the front bumper area. There are some changes to it. But i like the way your guys product looks like with the pipes. I was thinking to get it and paint them and the turbo pipes lol that would have been a hell of a project, but i let it go. I would've made it yellow to go with my brakes.

you already ordered them? i just cut the plastic with knife and there is a wire going in circular motion...just need to cut the wire with the plier. You'll see it when you are cutting it. Its really easy stuff.
you cut it to your like and how much space our car has. Its extendable and contractible. Plus we have a little bend as well. Which you can just pull the tube and twist it easily.

I get off work in 3 hrs. If i remember today, I'll take pics. If not, i'll do it tomorrow.

when you take off the stock cloth tube off the air intake housing, try to remove all the glue gunk you can from the housing. Doesn't has to be clean as new. The silicone couplers go over the tube and the couplers go over the air intake housings.

Yeah I did, everything is coming this week. Ordered only one tube based on your recommendation.

Oh okay. Yeah, 1 of the tube would be enough. I should've thought that and returned one, but i guess I didn't pay attention then lol. And then you should've ordered 3 silicone couplers instead of 2? Because the tube comes with 1, since you ordered only 1, you'd need an additional one for the other side. I still have plenty of the tube left after I cut it. And the tubes that I have installed, as you can see, I've closed them up and they'd probably expand by 1 more foot.

I didn't take pics when I was installing it. Maybe I should have. But the process is fairly simple. I saw these tubes being used on W211 E55 so I gave them a try. So far so good. And they won't blow/unravel like the stock ones.
Just warm up the silicone couplers so they can soften up and to install over the tube and the air intake housing. That's all.

Sorry it took me longer for the pics. Let me know if you have any questions

Awesome thanks, I did order three not sure how rigid they are were you able to connect to me directly to the intake box? Curious,if it is possible or is it more of a permenant adhesion.

Looks great.

Hey guys! Just wondering I'm kinda new at this... do all engine air filters need to be "oiled" or just the reusable K&N ones? I really want to connect with my car, don't want to pay for something this easy to do.

My filter A2780940004.

@w1s yeah, don't spray oil unless the filter specifies in the instruction. I believe most, if not all, K&N filters requires the spray. I haven't use any yet, but that's what I hear.

@Suppaa Mario Uhm, i don't think there's a way to use something to apply permanent adhesive to these. But once installed, they are highly unlikely to move from their position or fall out of place. Once the silicone couplers cool down or get cold after initial heating process, they become rigid and keep their shape. I've had to remove the entire air intake tubes and the box plenty of times, for different reasons such as spark plug replacement and such, and they retain their shape and stay in place. You shouldn't need a perm adhesion to them.

I'll do a little write-up of this pic.
1. This is just the stock air inlet on the "bumper" area and you can see the silicone coupler, SC, going inside the housing where the stock intake tube was.
2. That little bumpy part, that's how much the SC will go inside the housing. Same as the stock clothed tube.
3. That's how long the intake tube is and deep inside the SC on both sides. You can push the tube inside the SC as much as you can or want. In order to push the tube in, try to do it in a motion like you're tigheting/loosening a screw, clockwise/counterclockwise. It will be easier than just pushing it straight in there. You don't have to push the tubes in that far, but, oh well haha.
4. That's the stock housing tube that connects the air intake tube to the air-box. But i guess you can also remove that and attach the air intake tube with SC directly to the air-box housing since these tubes can take multiple bends at multiple locations. Your choice.
5. This is the same as #2...that's how much the SC goes inside the stock housing tube.

What VRP Speed offers is more cleaner set-up with less parts, but also expensive. This is even cheaper than stock tubes and they won't unravel or anything. Overall cost of this is $35-50ish. Just one air intake tube, stock, is $50+.

i believe many come pre-oiled out the box, do you then suggest we remove the oil before installation?

Only washable filters come pre-oiled. No other filters are pre-oiled, that includes aftermarket and OE filters. Marv

@Suppaa Mario hey Mario, just checking if you were able to install them on both sides? Or you had to modify them a bit?

Hey Roop, I have, no need of much modification at all. I saw that website has 30 degree silicon 3 inch tubes. I may do that later down the road. Who knows. But here is a picture, by the way thank you for the suggestion and tips.

Nice. Glad to help. Yeah these turned out to be a whole lot cheaper than stock tubes. I was running without 1 tube for about a month lol.
And damn, that's a one clean *** engine bay that I've seen haha. How do you keep it so clean, what do you use?
