Hey Guys - new to the forum and coming from owning a w212 E63 which I loved dearly and put over 215,000 kms (135,000 miles) on without any major issues. I recently purchased 2012 CLS 550 for my wife which I am going to pick up tomorrow. Have always wanted a bi-turbo car and these ones seem decent for the money aside from the 63 versions. Reason for not going to the 63 is based off current market pricing and just nothing reasonable being available. The CLS 550 seems like a great platform for a fraction of the cost even thought I wont drive it much, but of course I want to have my way with it...
Wondering which tune to go with that is safe and reliable - car has 59,000 miles currently. I have a Eurocharged dealer a few hours away, but have heard great things regarding the DME tune. Renntech and Weistec also seem like great options but I am open to other brands and tuners.
Also, a TCU tune seems like a must for this platform. Anyone have recommendations or suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Check out OE Tuning in Santa Anna,CA. They usually have a sale about Memorial Day and you can't beat their price. Last sale price for a stage 1 tune was $800 including a My Genius hand held. Give them a call, tell them Marv from CO suggested them. I've had my tune for just short of 3 years with zero problems and their tune really wakes the car up.

Weistec 540/715 ECU tune here purchased by my car's former owner at around 55K miles after conferring with his MB dealership service manager. Shortly after getting it he also added a Quaife limited-slip differential and it was money well spent

Do you happen to have any 60 foot or 0-60 times for your car? Wondering what impact the LSD has on launch. I know they're supposed to help a lot on cornering and in wet conditions.Originally Posted by DigitalDisaster

I purchased the OE tuning stage 1 tune on black friday. It was about 990 with the my genius device. I chose to buy the device so that I can flash back to stock when it comes to Cali smog. Tune has been great for 6k miles so far.

For what it's worth I recently purchased and installed an ECU tune from OE Tuning on my 2010 E63 during their Black Friday sale. I'm extremely pleased with the improved throttle response and the car still idles like a dream. Jeremy and his crew were excellent to work with.

Also FWIW, I recently installed the OE tune on my 2014 550, with less than 30k mikes on it. A noticeable increase in power. I'm not quite as enamored with the quicker throttle response as others, but that's because I didn't really want that when in "E" (read: old fart) mode. Also, under certain circumstances, the trans seems to upshift before I expect it to. For instance, when in E, pulling away from a stop under light throttle the trans will shift into 3rd at low revs as normal. Once it shifts into 3rd, if I slowly but continuously open the throttle more, it will build revs but then shifts into 4th earlier than I think it should given that I'm still opening the throttle. To be fair and transparent, I can't honestly say it didn't do the same thing with the factory tune, but I didn't notice it before.
Those are my only quibbles. Under heavier throttle in E, and in all circumstances in S, it behaves exactly as I think it should. At normal retail it isn't a bad deal, on sale it's a steal, and the OE crew is very responsive.

Sorry, I don't. I tend to drive like an old lady most of the time. In fact, I turned off the traction control literally for the first time ever several weeks ago and was amused at how easily this barge annihilated the rear tires in the first three gears -Originally Posted by Siegmann

ExploreThanks everyone for the input and suggestions! Went with OE as the guys were great and responsive, for a great price to boot!
Car definitely needs one step colder plugs and some drop in filters - but it definitely wakes up the car and is hands down quicker than my previous W212 E63.
Thanks @SALES@OETUNING !!

I actually just installed the BMC filters, and have the one step colder NGK plugs waiting to go in as well!
Went a little crazy with wheels from my previous E63 so running a Ferrada FR4 - 10.5" rear with 305's and a 9" front with 265's. Have a little rub on the wheel wells in the front but just barely clears everywhere else so fingers crossed
