Why not wait for 2007 S-class

Ok, I know these are two different cars, but have any of you consider the 2007 S-class before getting your CLS? or is it the "I'm not that old" thingy to consider its big brother? Pricewise, a well equip CLS500 could cost as much as the entry level S.

like u said, 2 different cars. while the initial picts of the new S look very nice, and resemble the CLS a bit, it does not have the sporty agressive look that drew me to the CLS...

because - they are different cars
but yes, it's true - some people can really consider new S-class instead of CLS. There is a part of undecided customers which don't exactly know what they want. To be honest, i belong to that part [though i do not have enough money temporarily]

Yes, the "S" (IMHO) is an older gentlemens car.

Thought about the new S for a minute but the CLS is a much younger look, but when I'm older - say 5 years from now - may as well get a Maybach if I'm gonna have a "older gentlemen's sedan" - just skip the S completely - or get a CL - When I have kids and need the space, it'll be a range.

And why, pray tell, do you feel this way? Many of my colleagues at work, between the ages of 26 and 32, drive S-Classes. I'm 30, and also push an S.

I do see some older ppl driving the S sometimes, but not as much as I see them pushing the LS430.....now THAT's an older gent's whip (IMHO, of course).

LS430? now thats really for old folks...and I have it. why! why! why do I have it? No matter how I lowered it and upgraded wheels etc. it adds 50 years on my age of 35.

hcden,

You make a great point, and I'm the type of guy you're talking about.

I was really looking forward to the CLS. I was convinced it was going to be my next car. But after driving it, I was a little underhwelmed. The door sills seemed to high, so that it felt like I was sitting deep inside the car. It also didn't have the same knock-out presence in person that I had been anticipating.

It also wan't quite as nice as the W220, nor is it available in 4Matic.

I think I'll keep driving my E39 old-body-style BMW 540 6-speed until I can see the new S Class in person...

I feel this way based on my own observations. Most, not all, of the time older people have larger 4-door sedans. It could be a Benz, Rolls, Bently, Lincoln ect.... My mum drives a 4-door Bently and she feels safer in a larger luxury vehicle. Ask any "oldsters" what a young persons car is and they will tell you 2-door sports cars.....
