wouldn't get a CLS without it, now that i have it. i back into my garage effortlessly using only side mirrors and feedback from the parktronic - it's a tight fit and would be harder without parktronic.

i dont want the false sense of security. others have stated this is not an issue, but anyone i know with aftermarket wheels and parktronic never relies on it. it sounds like the warning is very close. I had considered it, but what really gets me the most, are the little holes in the bumper, it doesnt look as clean, and ive been seeing more and more cars waxed, and the wax builds up in the circles, and looks even worse, especially on black cars. my sales person told me its for old people, thought that was strange for him to actually recommned against something. but i do hear people who give it praise with the CLS. just a counter point
oh, factoid junkie has a great point, it may be great for the garage, i could see this helping me out, but again, id side for looks...

jesse james welcome aboard. Did not order it. Just personal preference.Asked this very question awhile back before ordering and almost everyone here said go for it.
adam76 i'm with you on this one but I think we are definitely in the minority here.

If you have only one eye and thus no depth perception or you can't turn your neck enough to see out the back...you better get it.

Mercedes all the way!
those visible warnings on Parktronic are a lot easier to interpret than the beep beep sound on most other cars. and it detects curbs well.
but i think it's not really essential: it's not quite sensitive enough especially when you're REALLY close to something (which is actually when you really need the system). so i think it's not essential. when you're far away, you don't need it cuz you can see. when you're close, it's useless cuz it just goes all red. best is just open your window, look out, and park it, methinks!

It is certainly not a substitute for paying attention but on this car it is a nice security blanket. Rear visibility is a bit challenging in tight situations.
So many cars have the sensors now I don't even notice them any more.
It is a small price to pay to keep you from backing into something.

Not worth it
I had a very similar system in my 5 series in taiwan. Over there I felt that it would be something that I would put on every car I own out there. But here in the US ... I don't feel its necessary.

i agree that its not something to trust 100% and rely on but if you live in a city, like nyc or LA or where ever and theres lots of cars and lots of parallel parking, parktronic makes it a breeze and you dont ever have to worry about bumping somones bumper and getting those nasty scratches/holes from their license plate screws

I would say definitely get it, particularly if you park in a tight garage (as I do!).
I've had parktronic systems on previous cars (BMWs) and I can honestly say the CLS system is the most accurate I've ever seen. The visual indicators are spot on - 2 red lights and my front bumper is about 1 inch from the wall!!
As previous posts have said, a small price to protect your gorgeous wheels!!

e55211 traded in for CLS55
Didn't get the parktronic due to appearance issues, and I have no plans of parking my cls on any tight parking spot, unless it's my own garage wherein I have total control and know exactly when to stop.
If you see yourself oftenly parking the cls on tight public garages, you may want to get it.

Parktronic
I didn't get it simply because I didn't have a choice. My car was at the dealer and I just jumped on it. If I had a choice I would probably rather have that extra security with such an awesome car but then again Adam makes a great point.
