CLS550 (USA) tilt mirror parking aid DELETED
The tilting down of the right rear view mirror in Reverse is no longer there. There is no option on the Convenience menu to turn it on. The manual says "depending on your production date this feature may not be functioning." I'll say, it's flat GONE. My CLS500 had it but not the CLS550.
Does anyone know if it might be activated via Sar Diagnosis? If they can lower the car maybe they can turn on the Ferslugginer Mirror Tilt. In this car you really need it.

The dealer finally agreed to activate the parking assist on my '06 S65. It was a matter of version coding. Of course, that's no guarantee that the C219 has the hardware. I'd try squawking. I have no idea why they deleted this. The '06 manual doesn't even have the weasel words; it says the feature is standard. That and the key-dependent memory (which I know has been dropped in the 221/219) were not working, but both were activated with Star D.

They’re also commenting about this feature over on the 211 forum. Tough give up and I cannot see why, never had a problem with it in my E or CLS.

I received a call from Mercedes USA in response to my nasty-gram and she said that Star Diagnosis will NOT be able to activate the tilt-mirror. She said they took out some hardware and it was a decision made in Germany. She would pass on my displeasure. May I suggest we all write letters:

Tilt Mirror Parking Aid
Tilt Mirror Parking Aid. To make it easier to park, the exterior mirror on the front-passenger side moves into the parking position as soon as you engage reverse gear. This Feature has been removed!
We need to let them know that we are dissatisfied. Why bother? Because I went through this when Stuttgart (not MBUSA) removed the ability to scan preset radio stations on the 211 & 219. Granted Stuttgart or MBUSA would not foot the bill to retrofit 03 through 06 models as they said it was not feasible but a new IC was designed for 07 and it is back. Unfortunately SIRIUS satellite presets cannot be scanned …yet!
FYI: Although the preset/frequency menu choice can be programmed via STAR in the 03 through 06 IC/MFD however, choosing the preset option renders only frequency scan ability.

I am not sure if this helps or not but I noticed that on my car, that feature does not work if the mirror adjustment selection is set to the left mirror and not the right mirror. When it is on the right mirror, then the feature works.

Allied107, assuming yours is a US car and was produced September 2006 or later, which dealer did it for you?
Assuming you have a printout from the service department...what did it say about what they did?
So you now have a "Mirror parking assist-ON OFF" or some such verbage on your speedometer display?

I'm over from the CLS forum, reporting I received a call from Mercedes USA in response to my nasty-gram about the missing tilt-down feature and she advised that Star Diagnosis will NOT be able to activate the tilt-mirror. She said they took out some hardware and it was a decision made in Germany.
For those who already took delivery do not rely on the MBUSA Customer Assistance center CAC, sales person, or SA explanation for not having the feature. Request to have a face to face with the Shop Foreman and “suggest” activation via Star. Mention the feature is printed in your manual. If refused, and there are other dealers in your area visit each until activated.

mmmmm i have a 2006, cls350 got it last march the tilting option was working fine for both of the mirrors but after i took it to service now only the right one is working. when i ask the company they told me it comes like this there was no tilting option for the left 
but i am sure there was . BUT NOW I AM SURE THAT THIS ............. LIE TO ME CUZ I CAN REMMEMBER THERE WAS A TILTING OPTION depending on which mirror u choose 
i am gonna give them a f........ hard time for lieing

Conclusion, Parking Assist can be reactivated by dealers. Some dealers activate it free (i.e.: upon taking delivery or shortly thereafter, loyal customer, etc.), others may charge (up to $150), and still others will refuse claiming it cannot be activated.

I just went to my dealer in Fremont CA, for my brakes squeaking on my 07 550 at about 9000 miles. They replaced my front pads and rotors for free and said that the TILT MIRROR is just switched on through the STAR DIAG and he did that as well. So it seems like you can just take it in and the dealers will switch on the tilt mirror.

My date is 01/05 and i just checked mine.. the right one works when the indicator is shifted to the right mirror but the left one doesnt work either way... When i go for 26,000 service i will check to see if they will set my left one to work as well.

Just picked up my car. Asked the tech to turn on the parking aid. He tried but was unable. He showed me the computer and this function was not on the list that could be activated. He stated the door control does not have this coding, nor does the main hub or gateway or whatever he called it. Alas.
