How much did you pay for a brake service?

To change the brake pads only, my dealer quoted me $1,100.00. If I change the rotors also.... it's another $1,000.00.
Seems high to me..... what do you think?

My wife's 2003 CLK320 had 50,000 miles of free maintenance. They NEVER suggested the brake pads be replaced much less new rotors. Now no free service, so guess what? Every time you go in they say your need new brakes. A dealer profit center.
Why not pull a wheel, if you can't see the pads through the spokes and decide for yourself?

I am just curious...would it be cheaper if u were to bring after market parts/OEM that you purchased else where for them to change?? Instead of getting it from the dealership or shop?

Most dealers won't install others parts... selling parts is where they make their money as well as labor.

Hey Big Kahuna,
Just wait for the car to tell you it needs brakes. Then do it yourself.
Pads are $98. ( on line )

I just had crossdrilled rotors that I bought aftermarket and took them to Lokey mercedes for them to install. With new pads and all new caliper bolts installed from them it was $530. I asked for the new bolts because you should never tork bolts a second time on brakes.
