My wife went crazy for the CLS today..
I've been telling wifey for a while now I've found the next car I want - a CPO CLS. The 06's are in my current budget.
Her response has been, fine whatever you want. Well, today I pointed one out to her on the highway and she just went bonkers
Said it's one of the most beautiful cars she has seen and would love for me to get one.. I couldn't have set it up any better
The CLS is truly one of those vehicles that looks more beautiful in real life than even photos.
Now I've got to wait out the end of this damn lease!! 9 mos and counting..
I'm hoping I can find an 07 in 09 for about what 06's are in 08??? Is that crazy of me?
ALSO -- Am a little concerned I'm going to get bored driving A CLS over an E60 5'er with MT..I've never been able to warm aesthetically to E60..
I've owned E46 M3 SMGII, E39 540 6mt and E36 328 5mt...And a C240 back in the late 90's.

In 9 months I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find a 07 in your budget. I don't get bored driving my CLS. The automatic may be a change for you but it has the manu-matic if you wanna mess around.

the 550 is not boring at all, I usually change my car every year because I get bored of them and I have had this car for 2 years and still love it.
I think you should be able to get the 550 in 9 months cause that is some engine

80hp diff between 06 and 07 is nothing to sneeze at. I read somewhere that there was a significant brake chg too?
I'll have to watch the market and see. If I find the right value, CPO 06 I'd still pull the trigger. Time is certainly on my side when it comes to 07's too

The CLS550 is the only way to go. I love my CLS. Its one of those designs that ages well and still turns heads, even here in SoCal. IMO the most beautiful car Mercedes has made since the 300SL Gullwing.

Here's another thought to consider. Depending on how well you get along with the 'used car manager' at your local MB Dealer, you can have them perform a nationwide search at all MB Dealers for any CLS you want with a list of options... If they find what you want at another dealer, they can attempt a dealer trade... If a certain car has been sitting on a dealers lot in a part of the country where CLS's don't sell well, they may be willing to swap it to move it off the lot... The Dealer can also do a search of all Mannheim Auction cars and find you a lease return and CPO it for you... Keep in mind that MB's that get sold at auction to non-MB dealers are usually done so because MB Dealers didn't want the car for some reason... Stick with MB Dealers to get the best MB's on the market... Also, you can get the service records for any MB by providing your Service Manager with the VIN so you can see what has been done to the car service-wise...

I still have my '03 E55 but leased two '08 550s when a deal came up (wife and I both were due for new cars). Mind you, I haven't driven a newer E. They may be better.
In comparison with my '03 E55, the CLS has much better driving dynamics and feels much more as I expect a proper drivers' car to feel. Having just come back from Germany where the rental was an RS4, I definitely have a decent benchmark to compare against.
I still remember first getting the E55 and was never impressed with the way it handled. The term I've used for a while is 'flatulant rhino'. The CLS isn't 100% perfect but it definitely gets the balance better between comfort and performance. I have the AMG package but I don't think that includes any suspension enhancements. I do actually use the shifter paddles tho' Only thing I'll add; it doesn't have the outright power of the E55 but the delivery is intoxicating. Between the 7 speed box and the engine, it moves, and I don't feel like I'm missing out. Next car will be the CLS63 once the lease is up.
